Cargojet Airways Positions Available
Cargojet Airways, Canada's cargo airline, has immediate postings available for B727 flight deck crew. Resumes are being accepted for all positions according to the following experience requirements:
Captain ATPL, 5000 hours total with 500 hours PIC on type or 1500 PIC Transport Jet (in excess of 44,000 lbs MGTOW).
First Officer ATPL 3500 hours total with 500 hours transport jet or 1500 multi-turbine PIC.
Second Officer ATPL or CPL 2500 hours total with 500 hours multi-turbine PIC.
All positions are based in Hamilton, Ontario. Applicants must be licenced and have the right to work in Canada for further consideration.
While preference will be given to pilots currently typed on the 727, applications are invited from qualified non-rated candidates as well. Most available postings are permanent full-time. Some positions are temporary full-time, of up to six-months duration, with a possibility of permanent placement on successful completion of the term, subject to staffing needs and a performance review.
Interested applicants should submit a resume in "Word" format by e-mail to the Chief Pilot at gsugar@cargojet.com. Please indicate the position being applied for, and daytime contact information. All qualified submissions will be acknowledged, and candidates being considered will be promptly notified.
We look forward to hearing from you, and to having another opportunity to welcome successful professionals to the Cargojet team.

are you kidding me?
And here I thought things were picking up. If this is a sign of the times, they are sad times indeed.

That's funny that you think that is funny, considering that the 2nd officer position pays higher then JAZZ f/o position from what I hear. However, I bet you'd jump at a chance to fly for JAZZ for less money. I also hear that starting f/o wages at Cargojet are higher then that of mainline and Jazz. Unless I've been misinformed that is. With the amount of movement happening right now, I'd be interested to see how long people will sit sideways for. Sounds like a good learning opportunity, but I guess it's not for everyone.2good2btrue wrote:HAHAHA! Everyone else is lowering their minimums and these guys think they're gonna find people with that kind of time who want to sit sideways to earn their pay in food stamps.
You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Ah, yes, I can see that the formidable intellects have entered the fray, so I will withdraw and cede the stage to those overwhelmingly better informed than I, by making this my last reply to posts on this topic. Before I go, however, allow me to say this.
If one does not find the employment on offer to be to their liking, one should not apply. Insulting fellow professionals who are currently doing the job, who by the way far exceed the qualifications asked for, hardly seems an effective method of building the reputation for good conduct and thoughtfulness to which we all aspire.
Indeed, the fact that many pilots have responded would seem to indicate that there is still some hope for our poor fledgling airline. Please let's all leave these folks alone and allow them to make their own decisions. They are adult enough to tell whether or not they are well served by working for whatever company they may choose. Slinging mud from behind assumed names is not helpful.
Is there some irony here that when an employer offers jobs on a forum where people are looking for work, the offer is met with derision?
Musn't quibble, though. It's a great business, and it's great to be a part of it. Being able to offer jobs of any kind feels good. It's way better than doing lay-offs. How many pilots have you hired over the years, 2good2btrue and co-joe? Sorry, unfair question.
Keep the cards and letters coming, interviews start the week of the 24th.

George, I think most of us enjoy having someone come on here, using their real name, (as far as we know) trying to find the MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES. Maybe people are just jealous that they don't have the requirements. I'm Sure there are many pilots that feel traped at 1640 DME and beyond. I don't think your requirements are unreasonable and congratulations on been one of the 50 best managed companies in Canada (I didn't see Westjet on the list.)
I don't see the requirements as being unreasonable. Perhaps those that have complianed don't realise that at the end of it you'll be flying a bloody 727. Not exactly a katana. I'm sure that's the reason for the higher requirements.
Anyway, George you continue to be a class act.

A class act indeed, a pilot's "chief pilot", your guys and gals should be happy to have you.
I must ask though, why the need for FOs when you have many qualified and competent SOs waiting in the wings? (eg Gelbeish)
I wouldn't bank on flying moving sideways to rightseat in less than a year from what I understand.
Regards,
Neo

Co-joe and 2good2btrue.
I am surprised that you two have the arrogance to laugh in the face of a Chief Pilot of an airline who has taken the time to post on this website. When was the last time the Chief Pilot's of Westjet, Air Canada and the likes have done that. I suggest that you post your real name as George Sugar did and post your sarcastic replies. All he did was offer out jobs.
True, Westjet and the likes are lowering their minimums. But ask yourself why. Probably because they now know that new hires will be sitting right seat for ten years. Some of those SO's at Cargojet may see a left seat in just a few years.
From what I have heard, George is a stand up guy and you could ask anyone who has worked for him. He is a class act and guys from C3, Skyservice and Cargojet will attest to that. I guess you two would rather Chief Pilot's not post looking for candidates.
Remember, it wasn't long ago that the industry was in a slump and we were all hoping for something.
I am sure there is good reason for Cargojet asking for all three positions and those who work there know it. Obviously George Sugar didn't post all the information, except that they are looking for pilots. Time will tell.

Night Freighter. I could not agree with you more. The unbelievable idiocy of people on here is beyond comprehension at times. Mr. Sugar as you stated takes the time to post on here and he gets slammed? Unbelievable. Well I hope he continues to post, seems like a classy man!
Take care

Second Officer ATPL or CPL 2500 hours total with 500 hours
multi-turbine PIC.
you requested 500 hours multi-turbine PIC that must be absolutely PIC, if the pilot has experience as FO on jet and turbine and only twin piston PIC you do consider him?
thanks

It's not very often that a 'heavy' in the industry comes out to post...reply...reply again on these forums. Although I know for a fact that some of the 'heavies' @ Big Red read these here forums...they choose not to reply for whatever reason(s).
Mr. Sugar decided to participate. Although his posts have me running to the local university English prof's to translate his written wit to a simple minded dummy like myself...I must admit this site has reached a new level in a positive direction where a man of his position and experience takes out the time to reply back.
I wish I had something intelligent to ask of him...unfortunately...myself being exposed to the effects of hypoxia for too many years, I can barely remember which end I have to wipe.
Love ya Georgie!!

I don't want to start a mudslinging thing against people for posting their opinions. This is a free country and everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
I just feel that we are an organization of professionals who want to be treated like professionals. I just didn't agree with slagging on a man who posted, for our benefits, opportunities to work at this particular company. We should be encouraging more senior staff to freely take part in these forums, especially ones willing to use their own name, email address for our benefits to gain employment.
I feel that we are all better than this mudslinging. And having an opportunity to have a Chief Pilot encourage email and discussion is a great thing here. Normally, we apply to jobs hoping that our resumes are trashed in the garbage and here we had been given an opportunity to open a door of communication which normally is never given in such a way. And certain comments may close that opportunity again from others.
