Hey all, curious to know if anyone has any insight on next YYZ assessment dates? Just did/passed online test 9/29 - not sure if I've missed the boat for this year?

Thanks!!
so here's another question... If I'm in YYZ, could there be a possibility of being invited to the Moncton session?

If you let recruitment know you're interested in any region, there's a chance you could be offered a spot elsewhere in the country.

That said, YZ region is very short right now so if you are going to get in, it will probably be that region.

Hey Stormy,

Congrats on passing! Here is some historical info since Nav likes to keep stuff close to their chest:

In 2016 only one assessment was held, in February.
In 2017 there has so far been one assessment held, back in May.

This is speculation, so take this as you will, but if they're only going to hold one per year then you've missed the boat this year. One could expect that the next one won't be till spring 2018.

Also note that while YYZ may be short people, there is no shortage of applicants (the last count of applicants waiting to get invited to an assessment was ~800 ...back in May. That number is sure to have grown since then.)

Best of luck on your journey! Keep us updated on your progress!

Cheers

Do you happen to be in the pool of candidates for the April course for YYZ?

Hey All,

I see some of you were invited to the Nav Canada In-Person testing session in YYZ in APR.

My date is 14 APR 2018 YYZ

It seems that the testing has changed from before (they no longer give out the W-SIM) and it is now an 8 hour day instead of the 4-5 hours.

Just wanted to know how anyone who is writing the assessment in APR is preparing for it.

If anyone writing is interested in meeting up and preparing together, please let me know!

Best to all.

Shiv

When you say you got an invite to the April 5th Assessment for a Fall 2018 course, are you assuming the April 5th Assessment candidates will be invited to the Fall 2018 courses? Just to clarify, from what I've understood from these posts, the May 2017 Assessment writers have been invited to the April 2018 Courses. The December 2017 Assessment writers are awaiting in-person interviews and potentially invites to Fall 2018 Courses. I could be wrong. Anyone else care to comment on these assumptions?

That is usually how it goes. However keep in mind that candidates from previous assessment dates can still be selected for upcoming courses as long as they have not yet timed out. Of course there's a chance the new successful candidates can potentially place higher and bump them down the list.

Hello,

You're right in that that's usually how things would go. But they're doing things a bit differently now. The April assessment invitees, 150 in total, are part of a new pilot program with a new assessment format. They will choose the top 30 of the 150 and invite them back for a 2-day boot camp in May and June with more testing and interviews and they're hoping to keep most of the 30 but the next day or day after you'll know if you're being offered a spot for the fall training class of IFR or VFR. They're trying to streamline the hiring so people aren't waiting in the pool so long at each stage. I can't say for sure but I'd guess the 150 chosen for this were pretty high up in the existing pool awaiting an assessment.

I wonder if that means those who wrote in Dec 2017 are screwed... ugh.

I don't think they would have held an assessment in December of 2017 without having plans for those who attended it to get offers at some point. I did my assessment in Feb (YWG) and Joanne did tell me they were planning on changing the selection process. A change like this would take quite a lot of time to plan and gather new resources for testing. I think that if they had no plans for the Dec 2017 attendants, they wouldn't have held an assessment session then. Just my thoughts on it though.

That's interesting... I wonder if they are going to make that change to all of the regions, or if they are just first trying it out in YYZ??

My understanding is that YYZ FIR is the test region but if they like the results and decide to adopt this new assessment and process, then it would become a national standard
