What's the Deal With Float Flying and Joe Boy Tasks

What is it about the float flying gig that brings out the slave labour practices in operators.
Where I am now is not near as bad as others i've worked for, but there are still tasks that are not flying related.
I was just wondering how many twin drivers get back from trips and have to go cut firewood and clean the boss's truck?
Hell I really don't mind helping out. I'll fix a lawnmower or tinker with some meaningless shit but I don't like flying through shit weather to get back to the base and then be expected to keep busy.
Well I gotta go up the hill and fill the boss's wifes furnace oil tank.

What else is there to do in C.H.?
BTW, HA is looking for drivers...South Coast wx beats the hell out of the Central/North Coast wx especially during the rainy season, and you probably won't have as many shit jobs.

My first Beaver gig for a mom and pop operation. Didn't do my research on said mom and pop before hand.
Spent a full five hours my first week on the job, walking around with a 5 gallon bucket and one of those handy-dandy 'step-twist-pull' DANDY-LION tools.
An organized group of professional bush pilots certainly wouldn't stand for that shit.
A good point made by one of my employers.. 'Leave the sharp tools alone and stay off the roof in the bush.. someone's gotta get that bird home that's what I pay YOU for'

I hear ya Philly, sounds like you still have the odd shitee task thrown in for good measure. My season is over now and I gotta say that I'm not missing getting out a 55 year single engine float plane after a below IFR minimum approach and while being refuelled for another expected departure because 'ITS NOT THAT BAD....IS IT?" I'm sent to split firewood and PICK UP STICKS....FU*K, I wish I were joking. Man, my blood pressure just went sky high. I'm goin' to have a beer...I'll have one for you too Philly. That pi&&es me off.
So, like he asked, any of you twin drivers gotta do that?

Oh yeah one more thing...you have to "fill the boss's wifes furnace oil tank." Is that code? If it is, stop your complaining, the benefits don't get any better.

I wish my boys would clean my truck. it's way over due. Broompusher just tells me to get Fu****. Hows that for an employee. Anyone lookin for a navajo job who would also be willing to clean my truck. I got no wood to chop so you don't have to worry about that

Awww .... you poor thing. Sniff, sniff, it must be so very hard on you Philly . How are you ever going to manage.
The drop, role and run to the back of the hanger has been so very effective over the past couple of months. Maybe you need to change your strategy.
Maybe you need to do something special, very special to get out of those crappy new guy routines. Now what I mean .. Wink wink.

Chopping wood, filling tanks and pushing a broom are easy jobs! Cleaning the shitter and diggin outhouse holes however... thats when you know you need to find something else.. especially after a 14hr day!
Hey Dusty, is broompusher flying? or just pushin brooms?

Hey West Coast Swell you'd better watch it. We were fogged in all day. I not only managed to fill the furnace oil tank. I also cut up three bins worth of wood palletts(sp) with the skill saw.
At this rate it will be goodbye R985 and hello PT6 in no time.
P.S. Upchuck and WCS I am certainly not above taking a run at the boss's wife to get outta nig nog tasks. But sometimes it's best to pick up the shovel. If you know what I mean.

A few years back, quite a few actually, the AME and myself were assigned to service the owners Porche and change his tires. Somehow the new Pirelli's wound up nailed to the dock, and we never again got tasked to work on his car.
