FA STRIKE LOOMING?

Post by JakeLRS »

CUPE 4060 which represent the flight attendants at flair have said that the company has tried to reduce the wage of current employees by a big 30%.

New employees will be making much less.

Flair said the changes will be effective November 1 however it doesn’t seem clear if it’s been postponed or if something is brewing.

FAs were offered nearly everything they wanted however the company wants to pay new hires market wages rather than 30% more than competitors. All current FAs will keep their current payscale and be grandfathered in. CUPE has a conflict of interest representing other FA groups and has made it political despite Flair's FA group willing to accept the 2 tier system.

It's not really a pay cut for new hires but a pay increase even with the new wage scale due to the fact they will get paid credits that they wouldn't get paid for when we were a charter operation such as deadheads, reserve, etc.

What was the approximate number in favor for a strike vote ?

I understand this would be frustrating for pilots and other staff, however, having two pay scales for the same position is dangerous. It divides the group and creates further problems down the road by creating a toxic work environment. We have seen this before.

Flair mgmt was making a number of mistakes early on and then a new CEO stepped in and sorted everything out, and now I would say this could be his first mistake if he lets this go to strike over the holidays. Figure it out.

Mgmt should not take advantage of staff or unions to make profits. Find a better way. Think bigger @ flair mgmt.

Yikes... A and B scales is a horrible idea. Anyone remember how well that worked out at Jazz? Can you imagine what that would feel like working beside someone that is on a completely different and higher wage scale? Cut costs elsewhere...
