Encore with under 1000 Hours?

Howdy all,

Just wondering if anyone has been hired at Encore within the last year that is under 1000 hours. I have seen that the minimum is 1000 but heard stories that people under that have been getting hired.

Just curious what is fact and what is fiction

I've heard of this internally by third and fourth sources, but I've not met a single student during any of the training I've been involved that has under 1000 hours, so I'd put it down to fiction. Interviewing before 1000 hours might be a different story though.

What I have heard and seen is that people under 1000 hours are being interviewed and told that they are being put in the pool, but they are not being called up for groundschool until they reach the 1000 hour mark.

i've heard of someone with 6 months on a 1900 going to mainline. not sure the tt.
if you have 200 hours tt, apply to mainline.

If you have any time... go straight to mainline. Most captains at Encore basically have more hours than ALL the OTS COMBINED!
Plus why would you go to Encore? I mean I am sorry but you'll have to groom aircraft, your career is unsure, the WJ mainline contract isn't that great, and there are opportunities literally in every major airlines at the moment!

Honest question, to help inform OP's decision. I feel if you had the choice between encore and jazz, jazz no question. However, what if you're deciding between WJ mainline and Jazz? Thoughts?

Well one of the recent classes I heard they all had around 4000 hours with some up to 5000+. Let’s use an average on the low end for that group..say 3500 hours. Are you saying most encore captains have 17,500 hours +....?

The last class had a couple of pilots from another YYC-based airline that had closed its doors. Not all of them had that level of experience, but some did. Take that class as the anomaly it is. Were that airline still in operation, those pilots would not likely be with Encore.

Regardless of the numbers, what is clear is that the level of experience of those joining WestJet and Encore is dropping quickly.
