Ah yes. The old “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” trick.
So let’s say avocado toast and a latte is $20. $20 a day… every day…. from the day you turned 19.. and you now have a 20% downpayment on a house at age 60.
One that the previous owner bought as a high school dropout on a single income.

Should be able to keep groceries per month well under $500.
Pairings: Pre-prepared meals are what $2-$5 per meal? Go to Tim’s for a special treat now and again.
Accommodations : find something around $200-300.
Days off: go and find a second job if need be if you want to live a high and mighty lifestyle/ high on the hog
Re: Canadian housing Prices / Wages
A standard evening out at a restaurant, is now running around $100. Less than that, and you must be eating at McDonalds.
The used car market is insane, there are no $500 cars left on the market - unless you're just buying a rusted out frame and a set of biased ply tires. Not driving isn't necessarily an option, unless of course you live very near to the downtown core of a major metropolitan area.
All food has gone up significantly in costs due to inflation, even the canned and frozen crap - so nice try. A single person trying to eat a moderately healthy diet, is going to spend at minimum $100/week for groceries. Good luck finding anything prepared for as little as you suggest - even a sandwich at most grocery stores is closer to $10.
I have no fucking idea what year you think it is, but unless you are a squatter in a city park, you're going to be paying at minimum a $1000/month for a basement suite - let alone anything above ground. Hell, the going rent in the "Fraser Valley" (basically anything outside of Vancouver, that is) is pushing towards $2000/month. Average rent in Vancouver is closing in on $3000/month - according to a recent study, making it the least affordable area in Canada; but I'm sure the big smoke is so much cheaper...
You are so fucking out of touch with reality it's laughable, and yet, you keep peddling the same bullshit line that you can get ahead if you just work harder. That's not even a dream anymore, it's an outright myth. You can have a full time job, and still struggle to make ends meet, because of the insane cost of living these days. You strike me as either a completely out to lunch baby boomer, who's riding the golden wave off into the sunset; or an outright troll.

I’ve paid $300. For the worst scummy rathole basement suite imaginable.
Been there. Down that.
———-
Oh yeah. That was In 1992.
Principle of advice to live cheap is sound.
The rest of it is pure garbage.
Housing zoning laws need to change. Increased density, which you old farts hate and fight at every turn.
That means crashing every old boomers house value by half. Maybe expropriation of your property, kick you out and build a eightplex. Housing is a national crisis
Lets cut off voting at 75, too. Claw back all OAS and CPP if you have a house (or anything else) over 1 million.
You’ve had your share of ripping off our children. You’re done. No more say.

Not sure about you guys, but I’m wondering why a real estate agent as their first of only two posts here decided to resurrect a thread from 2019.
I'm not sure what's more depressing: That everyone has a price, or how low the price always is.

Yea you’re right, multiple factors, look at the wages being offered to mechanical and electrical engineers. All that education and the pay sucks in Canada now. This country is in more despair than just in aviation, having said that aviation has sucked here for over ten years now and it’s not getting any better any time soon. I wouldn’t get back in it if I were you…

That's just making rent, not saving, not getting ahead, not home ownership - just RENT.
Nothing ass-backwards about it. Pull y'er self up by the bootstraps, right there Rookie?

Fact: yes you can do all the things you suggest but try bringing a wife and kids along for the ride
Fact: the boomer generation could do all these things but generally didn’t have to

Boomers were the biggest beneficiaries of Covid.
We just need another plandemic, and lockdown so the millennials can get 4 2000k cheques while laid off, and the boomers can have their million dollar homes double in price again.
These leftist policies burned the young , any wonder why you saw a flip where younger people are moving conservative and older moved left. The great discovery of how left policy, the great empathy and equalizer is a hoax. The millennials got destroyed the past couple years.

Globalization and free trade in the late 80s was the beginning of the end. Boomers absolutely profited from it and in 2008 the maxed debt these fools were selling eachother since the 80s finally hit the wall. The economy never recovered and it’s been a crap shoot for following generations still working ever since.Blueontop wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 6:02 amGhostRider6 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 5:01 pmBlueontop wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 4:00 pm
Ok boomer…. The only generation that had it “easier” was yours. Boomer. The single number one reason we’re here and have it so hard is the deregulation that happened across the western world in the 1980s. The time when the first wave of boomers took the reigns of power and started treating the world like their own personal piggy bank. Your generation mortgaged every generations future after that so you all could cash in for short term dividends. The numbers don’t lie in every sector prices have risen and incomes adjusted for inflation have stagnated. It’s not about $5 dollar lattes
Misinformation, disinformation and poppycock.
Funny, you sure want your $5 lattes. Is it actually worth it?
You haven’t answered a single one of my points.
Fact: Regionals are hiring with 200 hours.
Fact: said pilot can be a captain at a regional with 1500 hours.
Fact: Inflation is a global phenomenon occurring everywhere.
Fact: the government dolled out huge amounts of $$ during the pandemic due to people not scrimping and saving for a rainy day.
Should I continue ?
Fact: I don’t drink $5 lattes
Fact: I make over 6 figures
Fact: I own property
Fact: regionals aren’t hiring 200 hours (perhaps advertising not hiring)
Fact:incomes adjusted for inflation HAVE been stagnant since the 1980s
Fact: I watch and read many sources of information that all support this fact (MSM, journalistic media such a frontline, 60 mins, government sources, etc)
Fact: yes you can do all the things you suggest but try bringing a wife and kids along for the ride
Fact: the boomer generation could do all these things but generally didn’t have to
How about instead sticking your head in the sand and acting sanctimonious, you realize that that most millennials are pretty much 40 now and still struggling to make to where the boomers were in their late 20s
I have done quite alright for myself but I do know the system is not the same it was for your privileged generation. Only wish you could see the same as what is obvious to most everyone else
