Hello,

I will be attending confederation college for aviation this upcoming fall semester. I am looking for advice from fellow students who attended the program. I am looking for ways to better prepare myself in order to have an easier transition time into the program. The course load looks rather heavy and I would like to do my best in order to stay on top of the game. please let me know what you guys think and share any helpful tips for first year students. I’d highly recommend to get in a small airplane for a fam flight if you haven’t already. There’s always a couple kids that have never been in a plane and end up dropping out because flying is not for them (getting air sick / don’t like it).
The teachers well prepare you to write the transport exams at the end of the semester. I’d highly recommend spend the couple hundred bucks and do a 40 hour basic ground school at a flight club near you. That way you’re not totally lost when you start getting hammered with information on the second day of school. Helps when you kind of know what they’re talking about.
Do your homework and don’t let yourself fall behind. The second that starts it’s hard to play catch up.
Apply to get a tutor right away even if you don’t think you need one. The second years know there shit and can help out a lot with the actual flight part of the program (tutors are free)

Thank you for your reply. It is a very good point you make about studying ahead of time. I will definitely enroll in PPL ground school via in class or online correspondence. I have already taken a few flight lessons and I haven’t felt sick, so I think I’ll be okay.

You made a good choice. The final exam isn't so bad if you put the work in, but you have to put the work in. It's a lot of fun here!

Seconded, and I can’t stress that enough. College was the first time I took my homework seriously (figured if I was paying I owed it to myself to do the whole course) and I made sure it was done immediately after class and before dinner every day. What I didn’t know at the time was that my timing for it was effectively locking all of that new knowledge in, something I later learned when I studied the mechanics of learning and memory. That guided review changed my life, exams became so much easier.

Thank you Chris and lownslow for the advice, I will keep that in mind.I’m very excited to start!

One more thing I would like to add is don’t expect to fly more than 20 hours in first 6-7 months if that’s what you’re looking for
