Or maybe they know they have a pool of upgradable F/Os in YUL and none in Toronto?
Probably a function of reviewing the demographics of AC flow applicants and volume of Jazz ATPL pilots. Note - just having an ATPL does not mean a pilot will pass either new-hire CA or CA upgrade training.

The company cannot ‘promise’ specific positions to pilots at interviews. The Jazz CBA does not allow for that in the prescribed methodology for filling vacancies.

Another poster suggested that it is Jazz seniority that will solely determine ability to be assigned a CA position. Getting an early seniority number will be the most reliable path to the left seat at Jazz.

Trying to grab as much pilots before they go elsewhere. They probably know that they will need those pilots (2500-3500h tt) in the upcoming year anyway but they will be nowhere to be found as most of them will already be in better paying FO positions at Flair, Swoop, cargojet, etc. which all have a yyz base and not a yul one (being that western bases are too senior to upgrade a new guy or have a DEC).

Not on the march backfills. Nothing is said about april/may

But I think it's fair to say they will need pilots sooner in yul and yyz.

Well what's the fail rate for upgrades? That will be your difference between 'entitlement' and 'earned'. I doubt it's huge. 10%?
‘Fail’ is a broad definition (includes voluntary withdrawal from upgrade training).

10% is probably accurate from both pre-COVID and current times.
Pre-Covid the failure rate at ML was as high as 30% IIRC

Only backfills of 2022 were in March. Unlikely there will be any more with the equipment bid running.
