Harv's Air CPL (pilottraining.ca)

Post by shivampatel »

Hey all,

So I want to write my Commercial Written soon and have learned while searching through this forum that Sharper Edge, Commercial Pilot Answer Guide, etc. have mixed opinions, some say it's extremely helpful and some say it's not helpful, making it a very hard choice to make on whether I should buy them or not.

However, it seems that everyone loves the Harv's Air Online Ground School, and there's a lot of people talking about using JUST that and getting over 90%. Anybody recently write the CPAER after using pilottraining.ca? What are your thoughts on using it, and should I buy it?

Thanks.

Harvs is good, but seems a bit of overkill. That said, what is wrong with too much information? Nothing.

Harv's was great and served me well. I wrote my CPAER last month and scored 93.9%. Some of their presentations appear a bit dated but the content is good (a bit overkill in areas as previously mentioned).

It was worth it in my opinion and prepared me well for the written.

Good luck!

Good to hear. What else did you use to study besides Harvs Air's pilotraining.ca?

I used pilottraining.ca and I consider it better then going doing ground school at some shady schools( done that too)

I did my CPL written 2 years ago and it is expired now , so will be doing it again, but this time I will be just going through CPL Sharpers edge Book and doing sample exams , and I also would recommend www.nizus.com - they have bank of questions and exams - with explanations and it cost 35$ for a month...or 50-60$ for a 6 month.

I used Pilottraining.ca and wrote my CPL exam last month, passed with good mark. It is the only material I used for my exam. There are more than enough information you need for your exam there.

Your concern is whether you can "truly absorb" the information on pilottraining.ca.

With the current situation being what it is and my plan to get back into the game after fifteen years off I decided the do Harv’s CPL.

Started off with Air Law, waaay too deep...haha so backtracked and did the PSTAR and now just finishing off the Air Exercises course. Will then hit the CPL again.

What I will say is yes there is a LOT of info. Lots of hours of video which actually is quite good. A lot of the info is refresher but being presented in a different way so now besides having a refresher of the subject I also get a different perspective of it which in turns leads to a better understanding of it.

So while this is going to take a long time to work through I’m convinced it will be time we’ll spent. And time is what I have a lot of right now....haha

My approach is, and this is just for me but I will watch all the videos, complete each mini quiz along the way. Once I’ve done that I will start over but this time read the reference material, go through the slides, redo the mini quizzes and then do the section quizzes. By this time and I’m figuring August TC should be open, should be able to get my Cat 1 and then I will write the exam. From there hit the air.

As for other study materials, at this point I really don’t think I will need any.
