Trudeu Bans All Cruise Ships From Canada Until Next Year

Trudeau just banned all cruise ships from docking in Canada until Feb 28, 2022. Now that's he's also placed the restrictions on leisure flights down south, could it be a stretch to think he'll continue that and issue a blanket restriction for the rest of the year on the airlines?

That may be true, but making an announcement that bans any COVID-related activity for an entire year will prevent cruiselines from selling tickets.
For example, with the airline restrictions to Mexico and the Caribbean, airlines can start selling tickets again beginning May 1 if they wish. The restriction might be extended, in which case the airline will refund those tickets or issue credits/vouchers. At least the situation is being evaluated in 3-month timeframes.
To prohibit a major leisure activity for an entire year will make it impossible for cruiselines to start selling tickets, and will undermine consumer confidence that the cruise system will resume in 2021. If the order is in fact rescinded, it's not like they'll be able to fill a 5000 person cruise ship as quickly as a couple 737's to Cancun.

I'm sick of seeing this circle jerk. If they only cared about 0 carbon we wouldn't have spent 10's of billions on buying a pipeline.
The reality is everything the government does is to keep voters happy. Canadians don't realize bailouts usually make the government money, and the airlines have such a bad reputation people would freak out if they got a penny of public money. The fact Air Canada isn't using CEWS makes us look like fools for putting up with shitty management.

While I am not a Trudeau supporter by any means and do think he’s completely useless. If you actually read the article is say no cruise ships over 100 pax in order to keep our health care system from being swamped by a covid infected vessel. Which is understandable, why would you want a ship with thousands of infected, possibly non-vaccinated visitors all needing medical attention. It would be a disaster, especially at some of the smaller coastal communities cruise ships frequent. Hopefully this means they are planning on borders being open.

See cruise ships in Halifax all the time, been days when two of them are tied up. It’s unfortunate for Halifax business community with the loss of revenue when the few thousands of tourists mill about hitting the fine waterfront watering holes and eateries as well as the quality attractions offered. Despite it all, it has been accepted here last year as a prudent measure and undoubtedly same this season. Cruise ships visit the Ports of Saint John, Charlottetown,Sydney(on occasion) and St. John’s, revenue loss for those places as well.
Hopefully 2022 things will be settled somewhat.

Even if you are vaccinated now you are still subject to all the restrictions. It’s almost like they know the vaccine won’t do jack shit but they don’t want to admit it now that billions have been spent and the fear p0rn has been eaten hook line and sinker.

Great, but 500 people who live in high density housing can all take lunch break at the meat packers together, but lets ban all cruise ships.

Plus they are terrible for the environment, I wouldn't care of the cruise industry closed down tbh.
