Re: 3 dead after GSH AS350 crashes south of Resolute Bay
The Arctic although one of the most beautiful places to fly on earth has also been one of the most challenging and unforgiving to those that operate there. It goes without saying my thoughts and Prayers go out to the families and Great Slave Helicopters.
Re: 3 dead after GSH AS350 crashes south of Resolute Bay
At approximately 1550 Central Daylight Time on 25 April 2021, a Great Slave Helicopters' Airbus
Helicopters AS350-B2 (registration C-FYDA) departed a remote camp located on Russell Island,
Nunavut on a day VFR flight to Resolute Bay Airport, Nunavut (CYRB). On board was the pilot, an
aircraft maintenance engineer, and a biologist. While flying over Griffith Island, approximately 12
nautical miles southwest of CYRB, the helicopter impacted the snow-covered terrain at
approximately 1632 Central Daylight Time. The aircraft was destroyed; however, the emergency
locator transmitter did not transit a distress signal to the search and rescue satellites. A post-crash
fire consumed much of the fuselage area. There were no survivors.
