Pilot Licence

Post by RampJock »

Whats the Deal with the peice of paper that Transport gives you! I saw a dudes licence from africa the other day had his picture on it looked half respectable. Why cant TC make a licence that looks similar to the one you get for driving a car. Have one licence for PPL CPL and ATPL. Then have the Magnetic strip on the back have info on what ratings you have like ME or IFR or type ratings. So when you pass a ride or get some other qualification they add that to your licence in the Data base and bam. Id suspect the cost would pay for itself in making up new licences and mailing them out. Just a thought any Ideas anyone

In the US they have their licenses made up in the shape of a credit card. Just one card with all your ratings on it, that would be handy considering the size.

Why would Transport spend the taxpayers money on something the taxpayer wants? What would be their motivation for doing so?

Hey!

If we have our pictures on it, then how can I loan it to my friends when THEY want to go flying? :P

You mean we're not supposed to? I usually rent mine since I have no use for it at the moment!

CARDS.......

Post by Always Moving »

For that matter, why do I have to have an OHIP and a drivers licence and a library card. Theay are all goverment cards, couldn't they make a GOOD ID card and then add little marks to it?
As ussually, everyone wants to keep the little power they have.........

Licensed engineers have a picture ID now, so it must be coming for the pilots too.

loopy they licence engineers????? Now just think of the ramifications of a credit card type of licence. They would probibally last forever and a bar code or magnetic strip would take care of upgrades etc etc, Now that would mean a machine. An efficient machine that would replace many bureaucrates in TC. There would be unemployment, bankrupcies, suicides, failed marriages, The devastation would be unspeakable. Now where will those govt. workers ever get another job. I tell you, it would be worse than running out of beer, And worse yet, it may just spring loose a bunch of inspectors who would now have to get out of the office and actually go to the airport. Ramp checks up the ying yang. bureacrats by the dozen, some may even try to actually fly an airplane. That would be a disaster. With TC pilots retraining, the run-up area would be blocked by Kingairs for days and days. you could not get onto the runway for all the "low and over, check my gear"s. No, it's better the way it is. Trust me.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Yes Ol'timer, we could eliminate a whole class of beaurocrat and save the tax payer millions.

Actually, I was in the YHM TC office yesterday having my ATPL license issued. Finally! Anyway, the folks there are always very helpfull. Sharron, Kudos to you. I asked about a picture ID for pilots, she said she had heard nothing of it . Figured they wouldn't because of currency for rating, etc. I suggested the bar code could handle all of that info.

A picture ID only makes sense to me. They already have the picture gear. They had to do a shot of an engineer while I was there.

Rudy, .

But it is a good idea.. In theory.. So what, big brother would be watching.. Always moving is right, 3 cards for government services in one province and if he does as his name suggests he needs new ID every province he stays in..

Only problem with creating one citizen card with a barcode that just updates to where you move to, gets ratings for driving and flying etc. Is simply a loss of government jobs.

LOTS of government jobs.. The bureaucrats would never allow this to go through.

Man I'm all for the little slip of paper.

The Government jumped all over the $85 fee to renew a drivers licence now that it isn't laminated paper, I bet they'd do the same with the CPL.
$180/yr for the medical and paperwork fees is enough, there's no need to spend more for some B.S. plastic licence with a picture.

Oh... I'm an ugly mofo too
