Hello guys, I am here to ask a question that I could not seem to find an answer anyway, thank you in advance.

So my situation is that, I have recently converted my FAA PPL into a Canadian one, if you are a FAA pilot you would know that we can receive dual and pic time together after you got your PPL, however, in Canada you cannot get pic when you fly with your instructor, so you only get dual.

One of my instructor suggested me to get another logbook to "relog" the hours, because if Transport Canada sees my logbook having dual and pic in the same flight, they might disqualify that, so my question is that, should I forgo my pic hours for the dual or versa vice ? Or if I am actually allowed to keep them both since the hours were earned under FAA regulation.

Depends on what your intentions are going forward. Are you planning on applying for higher licenses or ratings? If you only fly recreationally then it is a moot point. My take would be that the hours obtained with an instructor on board should be logged as dual. If you log as PIC, but indicate that there was an instructor on board, this will be questioned. I believe that dual towards a CPL in Canada must be logged with a Canadian instructor, so these hours you obtained in the US with an American instructor on board can be used towards the total time requirements, but not the dual requirements.

Dual training in the US is creditable towards instructional requirements for a Canadian CPL. Be prepared to show evidence of what was being taught during those flight hours, and for which part of a Canadian CPL syllabus it was appropriate.

You must only claim credit for PIC time that meets Canadian PIC requirements. How you so that is up to you - new logbook, worksheet, etc, but you cannot claim credit towards a Canadian licence or rating for PIC time during which you were not PIC under the Canadian rules for PIC, regardless of what the rules of the country in which the time was logged are.
