Useful way of using an empty 2-1/4” instrument hole
I fly a plane which has an empty unused 2-1/4” instrument hole in the panel. At some point I'm sure an instrument used to be in there, but it's not used at the moment. I could cover it up with a blank cover, but I was wondering if there are any useful things that could be done with it?
I tried looking for an ipad mount or some kind of pen holder that would fit in there, but that doesn't seem to exist.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

You have a minor headache which is that anything that is designed to be fitted to an airplane needs an STC, PMA, or equivalent approval to be fitted to an airplane. So if you wanted to sell, say a pen holder to fill a 2-1/4" instrument hole, you would need to provide an authorized release certificate with it.
On the other hand a non-aeronautical part can be fitted as a "minor modification", if it meets the criteria.
Why don't you get a 2-1/4" blanking plate and drill and fit something to it yourself?

Cover it with a picture of your girlfriend, or better yet, a picture of someone else’s girlfriend!!!

I like the CO detector suggestion!

I would definitely stick my fleshlight in there.

I filled the empty holes with a CO2 detector, vertical compass and and an outside air temperature gauge.

A holder for those cheap CO detectors would actually be pretty neat: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... ectors.php
Does anyone know if that exists? That would solve them from ever falling down in turbulence. I could try and make my own of course, but an existing solution would be nice....

I would probably use it to dispense pepperoni and/or liquorice.

How about a panel-mounted pulse oximeter?

I vote for one of those cool vintage aircraft wind-up clocks.

Just do what every other pilot does when they find a random hole in their instruments. Fill it full with chewing gum and chocolate bar wrappers. Be sure to keep the porn behind the smoke goggle panels for easy access.
