Getting PPL on a Retractable Gear (Insurance Question)
Hi,
has anyone here managed to get insurance on an RG (182/172/etc) aircraft prior to getting their PPL and if so, which insurance company insured that?
Thanks,

Re: Getting PPL on a Retractable Gear (Insurance Question)
I've instructed partly a PPL on a Piper Arrow 2, 3 years ago, I don't know the insurance that my student had.
the insurance didn't allow him to fly solo until 40 hours dual, we had to rent (and do some dual training) on the 150 of the school for the solo. He had done his flight test on his Arrow.

I trained a 14 year old from scratch to a PPL & night rating on his father's Cardinal RG. Used an Extra 300 for stall/spin training. Cardinal RG was insured for $2M liability only, no hull, through Marsh I believe. There were no time/training minimas mentioned.

Liability-only for that pilot might be an option, if he’s willing to post a bond for his partners’ share in the hull value.
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.

Re: Getting PPL on a Retractable Gear (Insurance Question)
I did 2 PPL's from scratch in 2 different Nanchang CJ6's. Both were fully insured with Liability and Hull through COPA. It wasn't cheap but there were no restrictions.
The only caveat was this was 8 to 10 years ago when the insurance market was pretty soft. The Insurance market place is much tighter now. Best just go to a broker and talk to COPA and see what is available.
