Not sure if you just didn't read the article you posted, or you're being intentionally facetious.
It doesn't matter if the conditions are smoke or fog, if you can't fly an instrument approach into Kelowna, you're not going to be landing there when the visibility is 3/4 mile. What exactly does that have to do with the Canadian airline sector? He explains the BC Wildfire Service places what’s referred to as a “no-fly zone” in the vicinity of the fire. That zone is also right above the instrument approach into Kelowna International.
“Because of that no-fly zone, we can’t have any aircraft flying the instrument procedures into the airport, and as a result of that, the pilots aren’t able to shoot the approach into the facility,” he said.
According to Elchitz, the visibility at the airport was about 3/4 of a mile Monday afternoon.

Yeah, if you decide to fly THROUGH the fire . Go around it!
The airlines ask for support and then they abandon communities .. time for open skies !

This poster has no knowledge of aviation or airspace, rules or regulations, or safety and compliance with NOTAMS.
This has to be one of the stupidest comments in AVCanada history.
Shocking someone can posts comments like that online on an AVIATION forum that has no clue about AVIATION.
Re: Airlines deliver poor service to Kelowna residents: 40 flights cancelled
The airspace around fires is closed so that the tankers can operate unrestricted in the vicinity of the fire....to put out the fire.
It has nothing to do with aircraft not being capable of operating in smoke

Actually if you look back into the commenters history apparently he/she got hired at jazz in 2017. And reflecting on the ignorant comment I can only assume they failed out or got fired. Now they are very bitter at the industry. That sucks for them but they should definitely move on.

If you don't want smoke in the airplane, don't fly through smoke.
If you want smoke in the airplane, take another hit of that bong and pretend.

This is a prime example of why the the world can’t agree on Covid. People with very little understanding or non at all, develop opinions based on assumptions then post those opinions as facts.

Airport visibility 3/4... Below vfr limits. Instrument approach is in the no fly zone = unable to fly an ifr approach = no planes land.GhostRider6 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:23 amCavalier44 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:10 am Not sure if you just didn't read the article you posted, or you're being intentionally facetious.

If you did actually work at Jazz I'm terrified someone with your lack of understanding was allowed to fly paying passengers around.

Yes, I do believe that's what he was trying to say. Probably a bit of frustration that he has to drive too.acpaleaks wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 4:08 pmAre you dumb?GhostRider6 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:03 am https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.citynew ... lowna/amp/

The way I read the Notams as of yesterday was that the airport is still open, but all of the IFR procedures are not allowed. No SID, no STARs, no IAP's, nothing, until at least Aug 14.
