We're hiring again. Our application portal is now open for B737 FO's for a variety of bases across Canada. Course dates beginning in February and ongoing throughout 2022.
I tried to apply but I don't have an ATPL, so wasn't able to finish the online application. Is this a hard requirement or will Flair consider 600 hours, 400 of which in high density IFR on turbine/jet aircraft?
You want a 737 job with 600 hours?
Well he won't get it. You need an ATPL and at 600 hrs TT and that's not the case (with him).
As a side note, the majority of B737 / A320 pilots in Europe start on that plane with 200 - 250 hrs and a Frozen ATPL. I think even Sunwing hired right out of school here BC (Before Covid). I may be wrong on that last one, but that's what someone told me a few years ago.

Good day everubody.
Will hiring captain be on the Flair's agenda soon or later..or is it something we can forget about it. Thks.
It's unlikely we will hire DEC's again although there is a slight possibility of a very limited number next year depending on how many of our FO's decline the upgrade to hold their base/lifestyle. Our current FO's are mostly all former widebody captains with 10 000+ hours.
Our most junior captain at the moment upgraded in 4 months, which will likely become closer to 12-18 months by the end of 2022 and 24+ months by the end of 2023.

I’ve got to say, it really is nice to have some transparent information on current experience of flight crews, bases, upgrade times, and an in depth look at what kind of experience you are looking for and what kind of experience we would be competing with in the hiring process. Also hiring timelines.

Thanks for answering questions, appreciate it.
What are the chances for a Canadian citizen with an ATPL, 2500 hrs half jet and half heavy turboprop? I know the experience has priority but what is the point of taking a 10,000 Capt on the right seat, some more experienced than the captains. Sometimes not a good idea to have two captains in the flight deck. Plus some of us younger guys are planning to grow with the company!

Suggestion: the website only allows for pdf resumes apparently. Word doc support would be useful.
You can Save As a PDF in Word.
But I think the big advantage in sending as a PDF is that it preserves formatting and avoids any compatibility issues, plus it's considered slightly more secure for the receiver.
Agree though that adding Word support could be helpful.

If you can't afford word, use Libre Office. It's free and has PDF support built in.

Oh yeah it was just an extra step (cause i didn’t catch the pdf thing at first. It says it a few steps above where you actually upload) i made my resume in google docs which can export a word file, but not a pdf (that I could see) so i had to go export as word then change the word to pdf. Not a huge deal, but annoying when you thought you were finishing the last step in the process and it fails to upload

It’s unlikely we’ll be considering 2500 hours until mid to late next year. The point in hiring 10000+ hour former jet captains as FOs is that they can upgrade on day 1 or whenever we need them. We quadrupled in size this year and are going to double again next year. We need a solid core of experience in the left seat to support that growth and we’re lucky enough to have it available right now.
No one is sitting as an FO longer than 3-8 months right now. As that upgrade time begins to extend then we begin hiring lower time pilots that we can develop and train internally over a period of a few years so they’ll be excellent, safe captains when ready.
We are beginning to mix in some lower experienced pilots (5000tt and fo only jet time) with our hiring in order to stagger out the experience levels and that will continue to drop in 2022-23

Hi tbaylx, is Flair planning any service into YXU?
Not at the moment. We’ve partnered with ykf. Our network planning team is always evaluating new routes for the new aircraft arriving so it’s always possible in the future.
It's nice to see management engaged in a positive way on this forum.
How are the contract negotiations coming along? I hope captain pay in the new contract will reflect the experience levels that Flair hopes to attain and continue to attract.
