Info on 1950s crash in yukon
Came across reference to a sabre that crashed near Meister lake in Southern yukon but have not had any luck finding anything on the internet about it..
Re: Info on 1950s crash in yukon
In ASN database are approx 1750 sabre accidents in the 50’s alone ..skimmed thru them .. didn’t see it. Any other info ?

I know about the aircraft but I don’t think it is a Sabre. Maybe a F84 or something like that. I am not very familiar with those military designations. I saw it a few times when I worked out of Watson Lake. I will check with contacts in the area. Pretty sure it is still there.Colinadams1972 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 7:03 pm Came across reference to a sabre that crashed near Meister lake in Southern yukon but have not had any luck finding anything on the internet about it..

It is a Republic F84E Thunderjet, USAF # 49-2026. Crashed west of Watson Lake Jan 7, 1950 due engine failure. If I recall correctly the pilot bailed out and the aircraft landed in a relatively flat area without too much major damage.Colinadams1972 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 7:03 pm Came across reference to a sabre that crashed near Meister lake in Southern yukon but have not had any luck finding anything on the internet about it..

Here is a photo that I took of the Republic F84 near Meister Lake in 1984. There are access trails for ATV’s and snow machines and it appears that the aircraft has been extensively vandalized.

Surprised the scrap metal collectors didn’t get to it in the first 34 years. This engine failure crash was the first one of over 1450 F84 accidents listed for the 1950’s (ASN).
