Money, Money, Money

Post by realitycheck »

I read recently that most people spend their entire adult life thinking about one thing above all others - MONEY. It's sort of true for me - wondering how to keep generating it even when the energy bunny is runnning low on motivation. How about you people - do you think about money a lot?

I would love to be in a position where I didn't have to think about money, but I don't think that there are many people in aviation (at least not at the entry level, where I am) that don't have to think about money (or lack there of).

Money does not make one happy..PERIOD! In my early thirties I thought I had the world by the ass..I had a brand new car (paid for cash) a house (owed bugger all on it), 2 snow mobiles, a boat, my plane and pissed away a lot of money on stupid things...was I happy...NO! Chasing the all mighty buck is not worth it to me anymore, I am all about being happy, screw the cash.

Screw the cash eh! That's an interesting perspective - must tell my wife that one. Hope she buys it!

This in no way relates to N2 and he shouldn't take offense....

But... This is what people who don't "think about money" look like in the western world...

Image

...

Obviously, people in butt fark nowhere are probably worried about a meal, shelter and if they have aids, and if they'll live to the avg age of 30years.... But like I said, most people in the western world, who are "content" without money, they're the ones who go home, get drunk and beat their wives......

otherwise, money is the driving factor for the rest of us because we like our cars, parking them in our two car garages, having our big macs and for the old people, isn't that all they whine about, pensions?

Life isn't so simple in the western world....

No offence taken YYZ and you are right. Perhaps I should clarify, when I say I don't worry about the cash anymore of course what I really mean is as long as I can live comfortably I don't want for the excesses. However living in poverty is not my idea of fun either.

Give me the choice between a job that pays me 60k a year at which I am happy or a job that pays 129k which I hate I’ll take the 60k any day. I like my truck just fine,,,who needs a BMW?

As long as I can pay the bills and put some good food on the table and beer in the fridge, I don't care. I've resigned myself to the fact that aviation won't make me rich. But it will make me miserable if I let it.

When I was a machinist with no hope, and no pilot's licence, I made some OK paycheques- and was miserable.

Now that I'm a machinist with some OK paycheques and a CPL, I have hope, and am quite happy.

Now my job is a means to an end, not a dead end. If you're worrying about money, chances are, you're really worried about something else.

Man I gotta stop watching Dr. Phil!

Would you rather be sad in the back of YOUR Citation X, or in the bedroom/kitchen of a mobile home?

For myself, I am quite content with just having a warm place to sleep, with electricity and internet (who needs tv or light?), and food. I am entry level, leaving for my commercial and multi-ifr in a couple days to come back to my job, and moving out of home. Money doesnt buy happyness, but you cannot live without money comfortably, and to be happy you need to be comfortable, which brings money into the equation. I'd be quite content living in a mobil home with a $1000 paycheck to pay the bills and food. Anyways, that said, back to work!

I spent most of my money on motorcycles, women and airplanes.

The rest I wasted

Unfortunate thing that many incomes aren't keeping up with inflation and getting to live "comfortably" is getting harder and harder, year by year...
