Weirdest request as an airstrip owner
What are some of the weirdest requests that airstrip owners/airport operators/airfield managers have had over the years?
I get the occasional request for feedback when a new hydro infrastructure or a new radio tower gets installed in the area, which is always nice.
But today I got contacted by a lady whose dog got missing, and her animal medium pointed her towards a local airstrip... Soo far the dog has not been found...

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Weirdest request as an airstrip owner
I once had a guy drive up, and ask if they could land a hot air balloon at our aerodrome in the next few days. I replied, don't you mean launch? No, land. "Sure" I replied. A few days later they did. I really did not know that they could preplan and navigate to a specific landing site, but, sure enough!

Actually, that would work for me. If/when I make an ugly landing, I could just say that I was shot down.

Yes, they do have balloon competitions that require a course, spot landings etc. I have an acquaintance who competes both in the USA and Europe. He made National Champion twice. He also flies Mitsubishi Mu-2s, a lot. Bede you may know who I mean, as well as anyone who has been typed on them, Pat C., moderator of the PROP seminars and in the Mu-2 icing videos. Pretty interesting to talk to about balloon competitions.

Made me think of the late Al Rubin. He wouldn't let us use the ARCAL system because he was dead sure the Hell's Angels would use it to run drugs out of Markham at night.

I had my own plane at a private airstrip for many years.
The strips owner allowed 7 of us to keep our planes there, as well as his own.
Over the years he had a few odd requests he told me about.
But the one that made him laugh most was a man who asked if he could use the airstrip to practice his golf drive on.
