The pros; The Avro RJ is a very capable jet. The captains you'll fly with are all fantastic people. I'm sure it will be a fun job in a good 705 environment. Lots of great people working there, full ramp staff at all their airports so you won't touch a bag. Show up, fly, go home.

The Cons, the pay is terrible, and it's charter so there is some on call stuff. In the summer time there's lots of work in YVR which may mean lots of time away from home, one of the planes lives there year round. There are no upgrades onto the 705 fleet ever. The only way to make more money will be to be a 703 or 704 captain, they'll offer this to you around the time your massive 2 year RJ bond is about to expire so that they can present you with another somewhat smaller but still rather large bond, but unless you meet Contrail, you won't fly the 200 or 1900 much.

Kinda what I figured, Alberta and their Contrail 🙄. They mentioned the pay in the pre interview phone call. Low for sure. Especially when you realize its a 110 seat 100k+ mtow jet and not “the same size as a dash 8-300” as I kinda thought. The money is low for a dash but when you take into account living in yyc vs yvr or yyz… probably a wash… not that much lower than jazz etc on 80 credit hrs. Cool plane but two year bond means my atpl’s would expire too.

“We have a set payscale for the position. It is $39,100 year one with Annual Raises as per our agreement” can’t be secret cause its one of the first things they said when calling me to set an interview. Like i said, with the regionals being 42-45k a year on a dash in yvr or yyz. I could stomach 39 in yyc as similar, but this isn’t a dash… closer to a 190 in size which is like 60+ at porter

Had nothing to do with being offended, was just pointing out that fact incase the same spelling error was going to be made on a cover letter. Could have been an auto correct error for all I know. Thanks for your typical extraordinary peanut gallery comment….

In regards to the original post, have always heard great things about NCA. Knew the former management group and they are top notch. Very professional and well run, especially for the size of the company. With that said, in the past pay was always on the lower end.

Yeah Jesus Christ that’s brutal. For a 705 jet!! Even if it was the best company ever I don’t think that’d be worth it.

Just a quick question. At $39;100 per annum how do you expect to heat or cool your house in YYC when regular gas is $1.67 per litre let alone park it anywhere.

And apparently you're bonded!

There should really be a rule that your bond can't be more than the difference between minimum wage and your salary.

Which makes me think. Could one argue that you don't have to pay the part of your bond if it would result in you making less than minimum wage for the time you've worked there?

You can argue all you want, but it wont change anything. I'm sure they have a hundred qualified applications for every empty seat. but the reality is also, the vast majority dont pay anything on a bond, they finish out the term, no harm, no foul. It's only an issue for those that choose to skip out before the term is up.

Is this current? That base pay across the board is offensive.

I've seen the same photo at a different thread a year ago. The date of that payscale shows 2012 if you look closely, outdated and unknown type of thing...

Contrail - to the best of my knowledge - is a consultant hired by oil patch companies to safeguard their crews' safety during flight ops in Alberta. Essentially, it stipulates hour/experience requirements for various commonly used aircraft types for oilpatch charters from CYYC and CYEG..
