Could you look over my plan for studying in Harv's Air?

Post by castlejean.k »

Hi guys!
It's my first post here, kinda nervous ^v^;;

I'm living in South Korea and serving as an air traffic controller in Air Force.
Since I've never been to outside of this little country, I need any kind of advice and it will be helpful so much.

For some reason, I decided to go to Canada to be a pilot and I'm trying to figure out what I need to know.
After my service of 7 years at the end of next year, I think I'm going to Harv's air in Winnipeg.
I'll have approximately $100,000 when I leave here. According to the expected tuition for being an instructor, it requires me to pay less than $80,000 in total.
And then I'll be an instructor there.

I'm gonna stay there with my wife (no kid) and I'm just worrying about ourselvs if we're afford to live with the money excluding flight training cost. Oh, my wife will work of course.

Do you think it's a safe plan for us?
Or should I save more money? In that case, I'm gonna be 30 next year but still good to go with a baby step as a pilot?
And could you tell me how much the instructors earn for their wage?

Please comment me. Thank you for reading this.

As an instructor you will likely make around 20 000 - 30 000 a year. It's not much compared to the cost of the license.

Will you be a permanent resident when you get to Canada?

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

That's a quite small amount, really. And no, I will go there with study permit and apply for PR when I'm qualified. Thanks!

You shouldn’t have trouble to be hired as an instructor once your training is completed. With 100k and if your wife work money won’t be a problem.

When are you coming here ? (I live in Winnipeg).

I'm not an expert on immigration laws, but I believe that while you are a foreign student in Canada you are allowed to work for a living to support yourself. I would focus on finding a job while you are here in the aviation industry, to meet people and make contacts to help you find a flying job once you become a permanent resident, (if living here is your goal). Canada has lots of good programs available to foreigners.
