How long can one expect to sit on RSV before holding a proper Schedule approximately? Hard to tell I know...

What's take home pay for a first year CA? How senior is the YYZ base for RJ?

A direct entry captain will be for a very long time at the bottom of the captain list, since he will always be lower then anyone that got hired before him, and therefore will only be senior to anyone that just got hired after him.

So to answer your question, it depends how many will be hired as direct entry.

Same applies to base selection and any reduction that may happen in the future.

Pilots that work at Jazz know that there are incremental deductions that may not manifest elsewhere.

There is a mandatory pension contribution (which is tax deductible so it is partially mitigated). There is also ALPA dues (1.85%). Also tax deductible.

The big hit is Pilot share of benefit premiums. For a top scale CA with family coverage it is nearly $1000/month paid in after tax dollars.

And depending on your Base you may also get charged for company paid parking as a taxable benefit.

Top payscale is a bit over $6000/month take home. Less than a couple years ago as mentioned due to deductions. Benefit premiums have gotten crazy.

With taxes and company deductions, including new improved benefit fees, I average 50% net.

Considering cost of living at any Jazz base these days, is the AC carrot or DEC enough of a draw anymore...wonder how long it will take before the payscale will have to be revisited...Jazz is falling behind other similar 705 shops...

Here is a tidbit for you.

There are positions other than Pilot where Jazz is either not getting applicants or is getting job offers rejected due to entry pay offered (mostly collective agreement scale). As a result, Jazz is offering pay scale above Year 1 pay from the applicable CBA.

Pilots will have to eventually fall in the same category or there will be unfilled vacancies.

Supply and demand. What is happening at US regionals is an example of responsiveness to supply side problems and the resulting competition for a finite labour resource.

Very interesting... they are getting creative and flexible it seems.

Do you think Jazz will go the route of just offering hiring and retention bonuses as many US regionals do instead of raising wages ?

Jazz will have to either adapt or shrink.

Jazz current fleet 114. Minimum fleet per CPA is 105.

AC seems more than capable of adding capacity so that is always an option if Jazz/Express is unable to meet its block hour obligations due to staffing.

For anybody seeking a DEC position at Jazz, the good news is that you will start at a somewhat reasonable pay rate (compared to starting FO pay at Jazz). That pay rate will not seem as reasonable compared to CA pay at some other 703/704/705 operators. But one should look at the overall package to make economic based decisions.

What you are also looking at is a position in the bottom 5% of your CA roster. You will be on a RSV line. Your monthly pay guarantee will be the blocking avg for that Position (77.5-82.5). You will be guaranteed 12 days off per bid period (more on a month with vacation which will not manifest in your first calendar year at Jazz).

Your relative seniority on your CA roster at Jazz may not meaningfully improve over time as attrition vacancies will in most cases be filled by pilots senior to you on the Jazz seniority list. You will be frozen on your equpment type for 4 years. If your ultimate ambition is AC, your AC application will only be processed within the Jazz application portal. You will only be processed by AC within your Jazz seniority for qualified applicants.

If DEC hiring at Jazz becomes a reality, applicants should make informed decisions.

Nope. 48 months with limited relief (upgrade or for new-hires after 24 months in order to get a Base that was not available to an individual at time of new-hire course Position bidding).

Clock starts running after line check complete.

Agreed. As an example, the Sky Regional captains realized how junior they were compared to all the very senior DH8 captains that have been here for 20+ years and are now mostly transitioning to the Embraer. Many senior F/Os, will jump the line ahead of DEC, because many of them have been waiting for a good seniority to upgrade.
