I'd say go to Jazz since over the next few years most of the hiring at Air Canada will come from Jazz and not WestJet.

Anywhere is faster to AC than Jazz.

On the seniority list they are interviewing around the 800 mark with a total pilot count around 1600. They delayed all flow till the fall and talking about a PML to slow it down even further.

The only thing you’ll get from going to Jazz is financial trouble.

WJ you'll be YYZ based and on reserve for at least half a decade, and an upgrade will take....well, forget about an upgrade. But 15+ years would be an optimistic outlook unless you're happy to take a pay cut from the right seat to take the left seat at Swoop. I'd take Jazz over WJ personally. I'm sure it won't take more than a few years to work your way up the seniority list and get a lifestyle that works for you. Plus a good shot at AC, even if that does take 3 or 4 years.

Don't think it will take that long. Know of guys at jazz turning down captain seats cause mainline is calling. Interesting market

There is no requirement to turn down a left seat at Jazz because AC has called you for an interview. Jazz knows exactly who is going for AC interviews and who is getting hired there. You are free to bid a left seat in the meantime and will be paid Captain bypass pay if Jazz decides not to do your upgrade training because you are going soon to AC

If you want, take a risk and joining lynx. If they survive and do well, you could see yourself in the top 10% of the seniority list in five years from now. Could be a really decent gig with mostly single day pairings. I had a friend that joined flair in their early days when it was a risky start up and now he’s in the top 20 of this seniority list out of 250 pilots

I'm surprised AC still hasn't established a base out of Calgary yet.

Opening or closing bases is very expensive with all the training events it creates

What about having a port so you can start and end your pairings in a certain city like Calgary or Edmonton?

I don’t work there so no clue how that would work just sharing what I saw in the news about them shifting out west

The company seems unwilling to consider the lives of it's employees. Feels like we're all just things to be used and replaced as necessary.

Really trying to entice those Encore pilots, eh?

Seems that WestJet management is already handing you the entire Encore pilot group on a silver platter.

Let's be fair... he seems to be more in tune with the issues that the pilot group at WS/WO/WR have than WestJet management.

I have shat on Flair in the past, but I have yet to speak to a Flair pilot who is pissed off at the company.

Seems to me there will be a lot of 737 jobs in Canada coming up. But how many of these pilots can actually make a living? Afford a house? Raise a family? To me there are only 2 options. WJ and AC…no point going capt and making less than people on a 1900! My personal thoughts only! 😂

I'm sorry, what?

Year Two First Officer:
WestJet (2022): $70.36 * 900 = $63,324
Flair (2020): $74.70 * 960 = $71,712

Those rates are off by a lot.

Mainline MMG is 77.5 not 75.

Year one FO WJ is 64.92 * 930 = $60 375.60 *.2 for WSP (If you opt for it which you should if you can) = $72 450.72.
Year 3 for example is the big jump to $89.88 so that is about $101K. Again, gotta include WSP which is 20% at mainline.
Top 737 FO is around $140K mark. Non of this includes per diems and OT of course, just straight base salary which assumes 20% WSP.

If you really want to go the extra mile, one would figure out the tax implications depending on what plan some one is doing but that is too much work.

Now take home pay...that is a different story LOL. We pay LTD/STD, too much for benefits, and 20% taken off if doing the WestJet savings plan; so expect to take home about 35% of what your gross is at WJ until a higher tax bracket where it's even less. But make it through two years (even one year) and you're laughing when you start withdrawing money from the WSP.

Not sure what Flair offers for ERP/ESP so we need those number to have a more comparable comparison.
