Bidding and Schedule
As a person who prefers to sleep in my bed as often as possible, is it possible to get a schedule with one-day pairings?
What is the best aircraft to bid to get one or two day pairings?
Does anyone have a copy of a pairing list that would include biddable pairings for the period?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Bidding and Schedule
It depends on seniority and whether your base has lots of commuters or not. Commuters tend to go after the 3 and 4 day pairings which leaves the single days available.
Re: Bidding and Schedule
Pretty well the only people that are sleeping in their own bed every night are either Sim training pilots or management.goingmissed wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 8:44 pm As a person who prefers to sleep in my bed as often as possible, is it possible to get a schedule with one-day pairings?

Single day trips are usually available in the various bid packages but the volume can vary quite a bit month to month. There is a ratio formula that applies for pairing mix but typically volume of pairings are weighted heavily towards 3&4 day pairings.
Normally, until above the 50% relative position on the roster you will be ‘unstacked’ in to the flying not bid by the more senior pilots. So while you can express preferences for type of flying (or avoid), it may not be possible to honour your bid based on remaining flying that must be assigned. You may find that at best it will be more that your ‘days off’ request can be met (however don’t bother bidding ‘weekends off’ expecting to be off every weekend unless you are senior).
The upside of multi day trips is a healthy per diem deposit. If you are a new-hire Jazz FO, you will need it.

What would be the strategy for bidding max days off sequentially? Curious as to if that’s possible with no regard for weekends or holidays free, how many days can you set up for yourself?

Re: Bidding and Schedule
During the bidding process, you can put requests for max continuous days off in a row. It’s all seniority based, so the block builder will build rosters from the top down, when he gets to you he will look at your request and try to accommodate them as best as possible. 3 days off in a row is fairly common. 4 days off or greater starts to get complicated if you are low on the list.

Bid continuous duties, you'll be sleeping in your own bed everyday...during the day.goingmissed wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 8:44 pm As a person who prefers to sleep in my bed as often as possible, is it possible to get a schedule with one-day pairings?

What rudder said is true. If you don’t do overnights you won’t be making any money. Perdiems count for 1/3 or slightly above that in pay, after deductions. So unless you have a partner that makes a lot of money or a second job, not really worth just doing days.

There are more 705 operateurs in YYZ and YUL. don't choose the worst one.goingmissed wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 8:44 pm As a person who prefers to sleep in my bed as often as possible, is it possible to get a schedule with one-day pairings?

The flying changes all the time with AC pulling the strings, nothing is consistent. You really can’t come here and bank on anything. Do yourself a favour and see if Porter is hiring

Re: Bidding and Schedule
Would your schedule be much better at Porter right now? I understand they don’t provide any accommodations during training and perdiems are way less. Yes you would make more salary but unless you live in the Toronto area you’d be taking a big financial hit for the first few months.

Just apply to westjet, cargojet, swoop, encore, heck even pasco. And you will be doing better. So many better options if you are looking for a Yyc or yvr base.
