So.... a medevac drama series on CBC
https://gem.cbc.ca/media/skymed/s01?cmp ... _EM_June27
SKYMED
The triumphs, heartbreaks, and tribulations of budding nurses and pilots flying air ambulances in remote Northern Canada. They’re all in over their heads, with no one to rely on but each other.
I was cautiously optimistic, then I heard "Tell Thompson we're coming in hot!"
What are your expectation? Looks like it will be ... interesting ...

Looking forward to checking it out as apparently two of the characters are based on friends of mine.

Does anyone know whose king airs are being used in the series? I'm wondering which company was involved.

When I'd heard that there was a show coming about medevac in northern MB I was expecting something more akin to ice pilots. I lost it when the trailer got to "TELL THOMPSON WE'RE COMING IN HOT".
I feel bad for everyone that's gonna have to listen to me quote this show on company freq

They could turn it into such great comedy if they wanted to.
"TELL THOMPSON WE'RE COMING IN HOT"

Brought to you by the same crappy broadcasting company that foisted the barely watchable and mostly dreadful Arctic Air on us.

Im going to look forward to shitting all over this blight on storytelling. Coming in hot? What does that mean? In all my time I have never said that. Does it mean Im fast or the egt is hot? Its going to be a delicious destruction of what the Canadian broadcorping casteration thinks medevac is and how its done.
Asking for priority when you are already a medevac flight.
The heroes of the north. Highly trained and highly skilled. They are the best of the best of the best of the people who will put up with the bullshit.
Hey cbc Im not doing anything. Hire me and Ill come and de-stupid your, doubtless idiotic episodes so they resemble in some way how it actually is. Boring, quiet and precise. Your show will die in a month because no one wants to watch that. Ice pilots was full of fake rehearsed emergencies so people wouldnt doze off too long.

Oooh.... Longer trailer.
2 king airs on a narrow runway looking at a 3rd one that overran the runway. It's going to be GREAT!

The most unrealistic thing about this series will be apparent to anyone who knows what a Thompson Ten is.
Second most unrealistic is the lack of clapped out Metros and Navajos.

Good God! I just barfed in my mouth a bit. Leave it up to the CBC for another "Cringe Fest".

Next time I am going to a tower controlled airport, wonder what their reaction would be if my initial contact was " I'm coming in hot ".
Anyone who ever saw an episode of Arctic Air, knows that the Communist Broadcasting Company makes terrible shows about flying.
That show had to be up there on the top 10 list of worst ever made.
The only way they could have made it worse was having an all male crew of pilots aged 75 and up, and all with pornstar mustaches.

Im hoping Canada's favourite drama teacher and french camp lover Captain Justin Trudeau makes an appearance in Skymed. He can dress up in the hat, bars and overcoat and sling that King Air around the sky like nobodies business. After all he does own the CBC and we do love him.
Maybe he can whip out the war measures act to break the lvop approach ban. Freeland can be his f/o and together they can Gump their way across the north.
Thats a show I could watch.

In all honesty, the only characters I have only ever seen Trudeau dressed up as, were in the videos and pictures that came to light a few years back. Lots of a certain colour of make-up(or was it shoe polish), a wig/turban, and what appeared to be a sock in his pants.
As for the CBC, tell them that defunding will be "coming in hot" sooner than they might expect. Maybe dismantling as well.

Ice pilots at least had some cool airplane shots.

I'm looking forward to this show as I know the creator/writer. She spent time in Thompson 20 years ago and more recently while writing the show. Her sister was a flight nurse up there and her brother-in-law is a pilot. The inflight scenes were shot with direction from former King Air pilots so I expect that to be relatively realistic though I expect that like most shows based on any type of job (law, medicine, teaching, policing), they'll stick to the more dramatic events of the profession.
But like most shows based on jobs, the target audience is likely not those who actually work at those jobs. When I was practicing law full-time I couldn't stomach watching an law-firm based shows because they were not realistic, but shows like Suits or The Good Wife weren't popular because of that, they were popular because their are good stories and characters.
I know that most of us who have time flying up north have some pretty great stories (though a lot are probably not suitable for CBC) and, as cpt. sweet'njuicy demonstrates, there are lots of really fun characters who have been up there (again, a lot are probably not suitable for CBC).
So even if this show isn't your cup of tea, I imagine that some of your relatives will love it to get a sense of what you did when you were up north (even if the actors all seem much better looking than most of us and ALL have much nicer teeth)

All of that may be true but when brilliant people in the entertainment industry put their minds to realism great things can happen. A show on medevac ought to be a movie and not a series. A series demands drama every episode and there just isn't. Unless she wants to bring in aviation management pressures, drinking and flying ( I suspect that will be there ) management pressures to break laws, management pressures to fly broken planes, management pressures to take the chiefs daughter, flying with rydar instead of radar. Getting stuck in the mud is a good one. Base an episode on max torque mud extractions while turning the prop blades into baseball bats. Show bags full of aluminum shavings to bring them into tolerance. Too boring? Too bad.
For sure do an episode on entitled nurses that thought they owned the plane, the pilots and everything else while getting paid a fortune. How many medevacs were bogus at (then) 7 dollars a statute mile. Too offensive? Too bad.
Im coming off angry and Im not. It was a blast and your friend will never capture it. She just cant
I thought the King airs flew themselves? Why such a boring plane?

The inventor of Rydar will need to come on here and explain it himself.
