Unbelievable catch

Post by farmer10 »

It was the boys weekend of ice fishing in northern Ontario last week and of course I caught the first catch of the day but it wasn,t a fish. It is I believe a world war 1 or 2 leather aviation cap in remarkable shape no kidding 60 feet of water. It has buckles, ear patches sewn in, a stamp with a w or m in a circle under 1 ear and some numbers stamped under the other but hard to make out it is brown in colour.
Anyone know where I can find out about identifying this hat or helmut I think they use to call them.

Wow, could have something incredibly valuable there.

Of course, there might be a plane down there too!

I'd check maybe first with a local Aviation museam.

Waht you have there is a WW2 Canadian Type "b" Training helmet
They are quite common
The inside stamp is usually a circle with a sisze number inside.
The inside is lined with chamois leather.
If there is a strap across the back . it will have year of manufacture info stamped in the leather.
I would suggest that you apply Pecards Antiqye Leather dressing as soon as it dries out . That is if it does not fall apart first.
In mint condition worth about $350 with goggles, so after years in the water yours is not really going to fetch much.

Wonder how it got there ? worn by a boater ? a/c crashed in lake?
