YYZ at it again

Post by JHR »

As of today GA requires a slot again for 1500-2000 arrivals and departures. Also no arrivals allowed between 1500-1600, 1900-2000 local.

They're down a runway. What do you expect?

Airlines use slots out of YYZ... why would that not apply to general aviation?

Because GA affects flow in YYZ minimally at best. Just start filing YHM and diverting to YYZ.

One GA aircraft affects flow as much as one A380.

I would argue finding a place to temporarily park an A380 for 45 min while it waits for an empty gate that actually has ground crew available, before dumping 500 pax (of which CBSA won’t be able to find the ArriveCAN info for 10% of them) into a crowded customs hall is a bigger impediment to the ‘flow’ than the biz jet that lands and taxis into any one of the FBO’s.

NavCanada has repeatedly told me that YYZ is limited by gate capacity and not movements per hour. I know a main runway is closed right now, but I think this slot system is more to do with metering the flow of aircraft to the terminals than ATC issues with getting them on the ground. GTAA just likes to blame everything on GA

Incorrect. Think spacing behind an A380. The issue is bizav is designed around the idea that meetings don't always run for an hour, and now if you miss your slot, you're hooped for the afternoon. With so few reasonable satelite options for GA into YYZ thanks to the GTAA stalling project approvals - sadly Pearson is the only option.
