Fort Vermin oops, I mean Vermillion is a very historic place. Settled in the very early days of the fur trade. Other than that, it is a typical small Northern Alberta town, commonly refered to as a shite hole.
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Hi!!!
I don't live there but I was there 3 days ago... It seems to be a nice small community. People were all very nice to me... Grocery looked fairly expensive though. I wouldn't mind to spent a few years there... Fishing and northern lights must be awesome!!! If you're looking for some calm you'll love it I think...
If you drive through Slave Lake be aware that highway 88 isn't paved all the way... About 250kms of gravel but you save about 2h compare to the way through Peace river and High Level.
Oh and by the way it's Fort VermiLion not Fort VermiLLion...
Good luck!

I would like to think most negative posts are about the location of the town in comparision to the larger centers like Calgary and Edmonton and the lack of "civilization" in the form of big box stores and major entertainment, etc, etc and not a reflection on the residents of said hole. The people of the area are very nice people and the Air Operator flying out of there is quite a respectable operator. There are a few Hutterite colonies, many natives, and a bunch of hardy farmers and lumberjack types living there. It is at the most northern extent of farming in Alberta.

All I can say about the Fort is good times.
Poker Fridays, basketball Sundays, bonfires in the summer, and occasional stripper wrestling in the bar.
Clear Creek Ice (beer) is only $6 a six pack AND its got like 6.9% alc, so its like you get a free one in each pack.
Food is only a bit more expensive than in the city. Rent is nice and cheap.
The locals are friendly.
So far as small town living goes, its pretty good.

It's actually pretty good gravel too. For sure take 88 if your driving up there. Saves a butt load of time. Oh ya and it is a shit hole and speaking as one who lives in a shit hole it is well with in my authority to identify another shit hole.termerair wrote:Hi!!!
