Anyone work out side of AC or JAZZ

Post by bohica »

So, does anyone work for 701 2 3 4 or 5 ops part time while they are working for AC.....(oh and maybe there is no 701, not really in a position to check). I guess what i'm trying ask, is if one gets on there eventually can you work part time on the side?? Here's hoping some people face that dilemma....

No, you're not allowed. Not at the mainline, anyway.

You can at Jazz, if you have a little side job ie: instructing etc, but you have to get it approved by management.

Isn't Proline a bunch of AC pilots working on the side? Or were they on layoff?

At Jazz, or more specifically one of their predecessors I had permission to fly on the side, requested it in writing from the CP, got it and no problem, just keep track of your times not to exceed any limitations and(my input) be damn sure not to let the sideline affect your main job in any way that could come back on you. Wouldn't look good to be booking off so you could fly at your part time job or too fatigued to report for duty.

I don't know about flying on the side for mainline guys, but I know that alot of them do other things like g/s instruction, or consulting on the side. Of course that has no effect on your monthly hours.

At mainline you are forbidden to fly for hire elsewhere on your days off and so it should be.

If you are telling the airline that flying over 85 hours is too fatiguing then how can you justify flying for someone else? Not to mention, you would be taking work away from someone else who could probably use the job.

If these companies, especially Jazz, paid their FO's enough then they would not need to have a job on the side just to make ends meet!! I don't think there is anything wrong with being able to provide for your family.

Absolutely, but it doesn't mean that you need to be in another cockpit. That perpetuates the syndrome of too much supply too little demand. You may also be increasing yourself to alot more risk and personal liability by working for an airline and flying for hire on the side. For the most part it is frowned upon. There was a guy working for CP who was flying floats on the side. The float plane crashed due to an engine failure, he survived but did not have a job at either company when the dust settled.

If you need extra cash, I would recommend Home Depot.

Sure that would be a great idea, however the problem lies in the fact that it would take a week at Home Depot to make a days wage for a part time pilot. Most pilots do not have other qualifications that can make them equal income to flying.

I also agree with the risks you mention and suggest anyone who takes on such work must be aware of the risks.

Would one be able to work for a 604 (private) operator ie. a corporate flight department? According to the rules/contract etc. I mean.

Once again proving fellow pilots are our worst enemies.... Suggesting that a Jazz,AC,WJ,ZOOM etc.etc...... pilot work outside of the airline even for a private operator (corporate) or whatever simply destroy's our profession.

We shouldn't have to worry about the idea of working outside.. If your airline pay's it's entry staff crap.... you should try to fix that problem....

Don't go and step on each others feet.. we are the only ones who get hurt

Why in the hell would you wanna be in another cockpit on your days off? This topic proves there are pilots out there with no common sense. Days off are days off .. Spend them with your kids! Wife! Working in your garage or something. Don't waste your whole life sitting in a cockpit, there are more things out there to see/do. Just don't make your job also your hobby.

2 cents ..

Alright. I was just curious what the thoughts were. Obviously we got those out. I totally agree about spending time with the fam, that should be the high priority. Not trying to stir anyones goats, just wondering about the whatif's.
