If a category 1 medical certificate expires do you need to apply as a new applicant?

If a category 1 medical certificate expires do you need to apply as a new applicant?

If a category 1 medical certificate expires are you treated as though you're a "new" applicant? Or can you just renew a usual. This is for the purpose of filing out the form. New Vs. Renewal. Thanks!

I’d call it a renewal, TC has a file open on you. This assumed it’s not twenty years expired or anything like that.

Even if it expired 40 years ago, it’s still a renewal.
