... and so I ask you for some hints!

Post by Dieter »

I am looking for IT (Information Technology ) job posts in the aeronautics scene all over Canada, but it's a tedious work scanning all the job banks for IT-jobs from that branch.
I do NOT want a pilot's job, but as the IT-market is significantly growing in Canada...
Any hints are very helpfull at the moment
Thank you very much in advance !
:)

Have you tried offering to work for free, wherever you applied?

If there is no prior relationship to the employer / contractor / customer I usually offer reduced rates for a certain period of time.

Hm. I haven't done it yet, but I can imagine to do it.

I haven't tried it yet, because I am still looking for good job banks.

Why do you ask ?

He is asking because in the aviation industry today there are a certain "caliber" of pilots who do work for free to gain experience.

His response was not meant to help you in any regard.

I can't help you either, except to say to ignore cyyz.

It works, and you'll probably see lots of resumes from RX and NxtJt within the next couple of weeks and guess what, most of them will get hired, because of their hours and hours on type....

Working for free is the fastest way to getting a job, next to paying for it...

I have immediately checked the position and their other vacancies, but as I do not have any Flight. Systems experience (nearly all the rest of compueters and Information Processing) I would be glad to learn some other places .

I thank you all in advance !!

I have sent a couple of emails to companies I picked from these forums. I decided to follow my emails in person. :)

As this is my first stay in Canada, I would appreciate some hints on affordable accommodation, car rental, and any other thing that could be helpful to me

Thank you all in advance !!

Hey Dieter, good to hear you got some positive feedback on job leads up here in Canada!!!

I only know of one other guy other than myself on here named 182driver (aka Henri) that have done a cross country trips. However I can recall his was in a Uhaull, you'd have to ask him. Other than that I don't know of anyone else on this site that have done road trip.

Where are you originating from...and where are you going? This country has 6 times zones, if you could narrow it down it would help us a lot!

Type of car you have?

Do you plan to stay in hotels? The only good ones unfortunately are the 5-7 star hotels. I don't recommend you stay anywhere else less than that rating for your own safety. Traveling across Canada by yourself can be, challenging.

FYI: worst time of year to travel is in June. The streets, highways, and hills are littered with seals in their migration from the frozen artic.

Hey I am Birddog,

thank you for your very fast and nice response.

As a matter of fact, they received and read the emails, as I can see from the auto-replies they sent to me, but did not contact me directly.

So to enhance my chances, I decided to meet them.

I am living in a small town about 100km north of Munich / Germany.

The companies I've emailed are located in Ontario and Saskachewan, so I want to visit them first and then 'hit the road' ! :) I am confident that I will find a nice job as soon as I am able to contact people directly !

I own a SUV, a Mazda Tribute, which runs on fuel and LPG

My intention is to travel ASAP !

Hey Dieter. The more I read about you willingness to move here the more this country could use people like you in our work force.

Yes this is VERY good news they sent you auto replies. Most people don't understand that an auto reply is a test to see how ambitious you are to get the job. Just the fact that you are coming from 100 kms north of Muenchen Deutschland to Canada, it will impress your potential employers very much.

I must say Ontario and Saskatchewan is a good starting point. I see you have done your home work. :smt023

I am surprized you do not drive a german car. Although I know back in WW2 the Germans and Japanese were allies. Does this still hold true today? The best way to get here from Germany is to go overtop the artic circle. No problem for you because of your SUV. Again...you have done your research because this way the seal migration will be ahead of you and no issues of having to deal with this annual event like we do. It's just too hard some years

Hey I am Birddog,

I am very, very proud of your praises :D !!
This is very supportive to me !!

Currently I am looking for the best way to bring my car to Canada and it would be great If anybody has some info for me on this.

Concerning the allies: not so far as I know !
But the Mazda is less expensive, less thirsty, very comfortable and has a MUCH HIGHER reliability !!
So what ! :D

Hi Dieter!

I would suggest contacting a local logistics company and ask about their prices. You'd have to pay for a small container and the trip to Canada, as far as i know the smallest container is 20' and would be big enough for your car and some belongings.

Just curious, do you have your mind set on immigrating to Canada? Do you qualify as a skilled worker?

Einen schönen Abend noch und du kannst mir gerne eine Nachricht schicken, ich hatte es bereits mit Container umzügen zu tun.

Hi rotateandfly:

Thank you for your suggestions ! :)

I have immediately checked the container option, and AFAIK it takes between 11 and 16 days to have it delivered by sea.

As this is a very long time, I tried to find other things like ferries, but it seems to me they do run between Europe and Island but not between Island and Canada.
As an additional option, I am looking for the fares of air cargo, too.

So if somebody knows of a cheap air carrier, this is a great help for me

Currently it is not my intention to immigrate to Canada, but IMHO I should have some chances of success.

Hi My Name is Earl:

it took me 8 of the 9 days to try to figure out what you mean :D

but the one and only thing I do understand is your welcome - so thank you very much for that !!
Please, be so kind to explain the remainder to me ! :)

Birddog, you're an a*****e. I pissed myself laughing, but still an a*****e. :D

Dieter, check out the Canadian Automobile Association at http://www.caa.ca for your roadtrip. For a fee, they'll provide you with maps, roadside assistance, hotel/motel discounts, etc. If you tell them where you want to start, destinations along the way, and where you want to end up, they'll even provide you with "trip ticks", which are map booklets with your route mapped out for you. It's not expensive, and they may even be able to help you with your transportation.

Otherwise, Birddog will sell you his 1977 Buick LeSabre for a good price. I'm sure he'll tell you that it's in excellent shape and is great on gas.

WestJet is doing a lot of hiring in their IT department. Check out their hiring center. What kind of position are you looking for?

I recently read in my local paper that it cost $2,500CDN to have a car transported from Canada to England. It sounds about right.
