A couple of incidents to the same aircraft on the same day. Reminds me of the time we taxied out for a charter in a twin Beech and taxied back in due to radio issues. Then we took off and had pressurization issue and turned back. Then we finally were able to do the charter after more maintenance but some of the passengers decided not to fly with us. Perhaps a good decision as the maintenance done did not solve the pressurization issue. Neither did further maintenance work on it at a separate base. Glad we had electric heat in the end.....
C-GTVO, a Boeing 737-219C operated by Chrono Jet Inc., was conducting flight MBK791 from
Mary River (CMR2) NU. to IQALUIT (CYFB) NU. After departing CMR2 at approximately 11 000
feet, the flight crew received a warning indicating the #2 start valve was open. A visual check of the
number 2 engine gauges indicated that the oil quantity reading was zero and the oil temp was 150
degrees. The QRH check list was completed and a precautionary shutdown of the number 2
engine was completed. The flight attendants were notified and the passengers were briefed for an
abnormal landing. An operational decision was made to return to CMR2, a mayday call was made,
and emergency services were placed on standby. A single engine overweight landing was
performed and the aircraft landed safely on Runway 30 at CMR2.
The operator's maintenance found the oil quantity gauge connector on the sending unit was
broken. MEL 79-01 was applied and the connector was capped and stowed. The start valve and
pressure switch were replaced. The aircraft was inspected for the overweight landing and was
found serviceable.
C-GTVO, a Boeing 737-219C operated by Chrono Aviation Inc., was conducting flight MBK795
from Mary River (CMR2) NU. to Iqaluit (CYFB) NU. After departing CMR2 at approximately 9000
feet, the flight crew received a warning indicating the #2 start valve was open. The QRH checklist
was consulted and a precautionary shutdown of the number 2 engine (Pratt & Whitney USA
JT8D-17) was completed. The flight attendants were notified and the passengers were briefed for
an abnormal landing. The aircraft made a return to CMR2, a PAN PAN call was made, and
emergency services were placed on standby. A single engine overweight landing was performed
and the aircraft landed safely on Runway 30 at CMR2.
This was the second similar occurrence for the aircraft (see TSB occurrence A22C0084). The
operator's maintenance carried out extensive electrical wiring troubleshooting and discovered one
flight deck connector pin shorting against its connector. The connector was replaced, test flights
were conducted, and the issue was cleared.
