Looking at houseing costs, and it seems Brampton looks nice and very afforadble. I know nothing about the town other than the name. Pros, cons please.

Thanks.

cement and more cement. Strip-mall hell.
Easy commute to Pearson though.

410 is always jammed at 6:30am.

Lots of Trucks on the smaller routes (Airport Rd./Torbram/Dixie/Derry).

Cheap houses, but expensive commute.

Good luck!

Brampton meets or exceeds every negative stereotype for suburban hell.
Look elsewhere.

Try Guelph or Cambridge if you won't be commuting everyday.

Brampton is a nice place to live. There is a lot of pavement and strip malls gallore; but there is an extensive "green" bike path that span the entire city. Northern brampton is almost country-like with many small lakes and open space.

Housing is affordable, definetly a good investment as the area is booming and is showing no signs of stopping.

The 410 can bog down in the morning but, but I haven't had many problems with my commuting times. If you have a 6am reporting time, odds are you won't notice the traffic. If you find yourself in rush hour then leave 15 minutes early, it is simple.

I am not saying I would like spend the rest of my life here, but it is ideal for my family needs at the present.

Commuting can be hell anywhere in the GTA.

Good luck,

Neophyte

Guelph is another place you might want to consider; it's a longer drive, but a nice town, good size and a little less of the hustle and bustle. And of course all the places in between: Milton, Georgetown, Cambellville, Acton... just depends what you're looking for in the town you live in.

Campbellville is a nice town, especially if you like train horns at 2 in the morning.

Unless you are downtown or well out of the GTA, your view from the living room will be limited to garage doors and minivans. Brampton has the exact same landscape as Mississaugua, Burlington, Oakville, Etobicoke, Markham, Richmond Hill, etc...etc.... you get the picture.

KAG are you looking to buy a house/condo or looking to rent? Are you married/kids or single? What is your schedule like, are you on reserve a lot or doing multi day pairings? Do you plan on staying in yyz or getting out quick?

Brampton is pretty easy commute. Some areas are more difficult than others (ie. north west). I am in the NE section and can be at the airport in as little as 15 minutes. Ususally add an extra 10 or so for rush hour (7-9 am and 5-7pm).

PM me if you want to be set up with a really good real estate agent here in Brampton.

Brampton has all the charm of Surrey BC, and Winnipeg's north end, with half the crime.

Go further north or west.

Bloor West, Port Credit, Oakville, Burlington. (West)

Barrie, Collingwood, Orangville. (North)

Guelph, Waterloo, Cambridge, (NE)

Peterborough, Cobourg (East)

Any of the above will be a nice place for family. Cost is proportional to the distance you drive. 15-20 min, rent is 900-1400/ mnth, buy 280-400k. The further out, the less it costs.

I grew up in Port Hope. What about it, or Oshawa/Whitby, Bowmanville, etc. as far as living and commuting? I know the 401 has expanded a bit since I lived there. Same as any other suburb?

Pro's

1. Close to airport.
2. Everything is within 5-10 minutes from your home...beer, liquor store etc
3. Lots of parks for the little ones.
4. Schools are generally pretty good.
5. Multicultural city
6. Some great bars and clubs.

Con's

1. Traffic getting worse all the time.
2. Transit is getting better but still terrible.
3. Minivan capitol of the GTA
4. Lineups getting longer at Timmies
5. Hospital wait times ridiculous

Generally a good place to raise a family and a decent community. Still doesn't have that big city attitude yet.
