The concept of a virtual base would be easy to implement making YYC,YEG,YOW and YHZ viable virtual bases where pairings could be created and bid on saving the company DH pay and the ability to sell another seat.... but no, this is the way it's always been done.

Opening a YC Base will never happen, if AC had their way there would only be a YZ Base. UL and WG are pure politics and VR just coasts (so to speak) along.

Even if they did it would be open to the entire group, no guarantee the existing residences would be senior enough to hold it.

A better question would be Why does AC fly to Europe with just two pilots.

Better question would be to give a base premium. Highest premiums for the cost of living within 2 hrs of the airport. Winnipeg should be zero, the rest would appropriately be more. Similar to Nav Canada.

Simple answer is because the CARS allow it.

A more accurate answer would be because the CAR’s AND the ACPA CBA allow it.

I don't think so. Even if the ACPPA didn't exist, AC would maintain pilot bases in YYZ, YVR and YUL. YWG would most definately go, but the rest would stay.

Name me a major airline running 3+ hubs that only has 1 pilot base.

If it didn't happen before it's never going to happen now.

Thanks to the acclimatization requirements in the new CAR Flight & Duty times a Western based pilot is almost useless once they get east of YWG for overnights, especially mornings. Must easier to move YYZ pilots out west to cover

This is the big issue for any carriers that do east west with overnights. 100% true

Really good point that I had not thought of at all!
