…it’s because the US still, even now, requires all non US citizens to be vax’d before entry. US flights expected to start this summer.

A. Porter already does US flights.
B. Crew are exempt from vax requirements.

It should not matter whether or not you have taken the Covid therapeutic commonly referred to as a vaccine.

Let me guess...they won't find enough people (aka don't pay enough) and plead the need for foreign workers.

Considering there has been numerous opportunities for that to occur and hasn’t been done, it’s safe to say it won’t.

This form is amazing. A company starts a new operation up, announces everything during the worst economic downturn in history, brings in a pay scale that was above a bunch of players in the market which was not bashed at all.

Two weeks after Flair and Sunwing sign a deal, Porter is getting lambasted for their payscale. Damn, give it time, you know to focus on the launch and then get the HR shit in order. Reality is, they don’t have a pilot issue at current and when they do they will have to bump the pay, benefits, etc just like everyone else.

Worst economic downturn in history? Com'on you think that? This is the largest wealth transfer in history. We know what you are saying is not true because inflation is running wild and the workforce has been strong all through the past 3 years. Anyone who wanted to work has had work. S&P is up over 10 percent today from the pre pandemic high. It's literally like nothing has happened, except government and corporations have taken the wealth of the middle class away, and continues to implement policies to make it more difficult to grow wealth. "You will own nothing and you will be happy"

Convince plebes they will all die, make mandatory vaccines, suppress wages and let inflation run wild.

Companies are making out like bandits.

This was just a social shake up and wealth redistribution to screw the middle class and younger generations. They will do it again when they convince all the millennials they need to drive tesla to save the planet from catastrophe.

Don't fall for this bullshit. Airline's can afford to pay pilots more than Amazon warehouse employees.

they don’t have a pilot issue? yes they do. a major issue. not only are they losing guys after a few months consistently to Air Canada, they’ve bought 50 confirmed jets in a market where EVERY airline is currently short crews. they have a MAJOR fucking issue. they will not staff 50 jets, plus the Q’s. and they have options for 50 more.

Flair can’t hire fast enough. Sunwing is so understaffed they’re canceling entire cities for the season. Westjet is apparently short 600 pilots but are keeping it under wraps during negotiations. All of cargo is short. And AC has been running short of pilots on every equipment bid now since 1876.

The only airline in this country not crazy short pilots is Transat because they’re still bleeding money and despite what they publish, they’re scared shitless internally and are operating very cautiously.

Porter might be a great place to work, but there’s no magic remedy to this pilot shortage. Even offering more money, they’ll still have a major issue with training and staffing. Especially training…how many sims do they have in canada for 50 jets? how many qualified instructors do they have for 50 jets? exactly.

in 2023, filling the seats in the back of the airplane isn’t the issue anymore. it’s filling the two up front.

This is a basic supply and demand problem. If you need EXPERIENCED crew then you must make it worth their while. $100-130 is not going to get the lifers in the north talking. $200k+ and a decent schedule, well then you are going to see applications with 5000+TT ATPLs applying. It is really that simple.

Porter pilot group desperately needs to unionize before it's too late. The shittiness is snowballing: pay freeze during covid, no YOS on the jet, seat lock on the Q. Problem is most of them are either complacent lifers or scared new hires. Seems to be a general culture of company bootlicking as well - "because we're special and unique." And I know for a fact company reps are constantly playing up that unions are bad mmkay.

I guarantee it won't be long before the Q operation and jet operation are divorced in some shape or form. They will become seperate entities, and anyone dumb enough to be left on the Q will be getting the shaft a la Encore.

And the guy saying they don't have a pilot issue LOL... They don't have enough to staff the jets, they don't have enough to upgrade on the Q, they don't have enough trainers, they are bleeding double digits monthly to AC.

Great explanation of the situation.

Here, highlighted /italicized one other word for you to complete the sentence. Might be a tough time on the Q, but the EMB is fine right now.

6 on site with 5 more coming shortly. There is over 100 pilots for the 11 frames, which makes the crewing on par. That includes getting OTS pilots every month.

Question should be, how many of those 100 plus the ones being hired are done ground school and kept on the property at full pay without having started sim? That is more indicative of the mentality at Porter.

Now you'll say, "oh they have to do that or people will leave." That's true, but many companies have laid people off under those circustances.
