Hello Fellows:

I've been looking for a job as a bush pilot , but I've not been able to find anything so far...not even a job as a dock hand... I've talked to pretty much every operator in BC and I've sent resumes and called a lot of people out east...
I have about 1500 TT with only 30 hrs on floats.
How do you get those 200 hrs to 500 hrs on floats that operators ask for?

You're on the right track but you need to expand your search a bit maybe, show up in person to some operators up north. There's lots of threads on the forum, you might want to search!! :D

Keep plugging away. If you need float time you might want to try to get a RS job on a twotter (Borek, Trans Maldivian). If you keep at it, you'll eventually get lucky. I had about 1200 TT and 30 multi PIC with no flying job, and one day out of the blue I got a Navajo offer from a company I never even heard of, let alone set a resume to. Anything can happen.

Just a question is that 1500 hours Instructing time. Most Bush operators wont look at you. Or if they do they consider that you have a fraction of that time. Its all about networking Ive gotten all my jobs through knowing people. You may think you have put in your grunt time with 1500 hours but you may have to take a step back and work the dock for a season to get on a 185 or 206 the next year. And get the the hell out of BC there is nothing there for a low timer really.

Murts is right, to fly floats in BC you need mucho hours on floats...say 500-1500. I've got over 100 hours on floats and drove to T. Bay and back without luck, the jobs are very scarce and insurance minimums are high leaving low timers out in the cold. Next plan...work outside of aviation and build float time on a private aircraft until someone finally hires me. Someday it'll happen.

I think Murts is right, except that I haven't gotten a single job through knowing people. In theory that would have been the easy way, but I got all of my jobs through relentless road tripping, incessant resume sending, and compulsive long distance phone calling. That and a little good timing...

Well road trips and such are how i got to know people i should have said. but also the oh you worked there do you know this guy type of thing and then they call up so and so and ask about me. Also just be persistant I know lots of 250 hour CPL that just give up and say screw it, what an attitude to have after spending 30g's to give up like that. keep at it you'll finally land something
