Health Benefits

What health benefits are offered to pilots at Porter (life insurance/disability; dental …)? Do the pilots pay a portion of the coverage?

Two different plan options. CORE or ENHANCED. I’m on family enhanced. Cost about $250-$300 a month. (I did very crude mental math)

Enhanced has $300 vision every 2 years
$1000 a year for massages etc, per year.
preventative dental up to $2500 per year at 100% coverage
Major dental at 50%

Amongst all the other things

Standard LTD/STD

Before you choose, you also get a rough breakdown of what each plan costs.

Not only that, you can bounce between them every 12 months, I believe, depending on your specific scenario and what makes sense for you.

They also have a group RRSP which starts at 4% match and increases to 9%.

Like most companies, they are signed up for Perkopolis and you can find some good ways to spend your hard earned income in there.

Also, ID90 and perx.com

Cheap vacations and cruises. Have used them many times before

So you're paying $3000-3600/year for a maximum of $3650 of coverage if you manage to use every penny available to you? Not sure that sounds like a great deal or am I missing something?

Mmmm, yeah that’s not how ANY benefit coverage can be looked at.

Hell at Jazz you’re paying about 12K for 6K of coverage, WJ you pay….I think you get it.

While the Porter Benefits could be better, I’ve also had worse. End of the day I’m paying just over $400 a month for all benefits, including STD/LTD.

..yes…it’s the “other things” you missed…like all the prescription costs for each person, other paramedical coverages and the fact it’s all coverage per person..so the family coverage includes spouse, kids etc…same rate if it’s just you or you and 2,3,4 etc.

He's also paying for a family. So that 3600 covers 3 or more people. 3650 x 4 = much more. Plus prescriptions etc.

I assume the solo plan would run 100 bucks or so.

Out of all the insurance companies, Sun Life is usually the most pricey.

Is it 1000 for all paramedical services combined? Or is it 1000 per category? So 1000 for massage per year, 1000 for physio, 1000 for chiro, etc?

Chiro is quackery. It feels nice but no one should be relying on it for any length of time.

That wasn't the scope of my question, I was just curious about coverage and mentioned the 3 most likely used paramedical services
