Agreement in Principle reached
Fellow Pilots,
Following eight months of intense negotiations, your MEC is pleased to announce that the pilots have reached an Agreement in Principle (AIP) with WestJet on our second collective agreement.
Your Status Representatives voted by majority to accept this AIP and present it to the pilot group for a ratification vote. While disappointed that we were forced to apply negative commercial pressure to achieve our goals, we are incredibly proud of our pilot group and your exceptional displays of unity in firm support of our MEC and Negotiating Committee.
GREAT JOB WJMEC!!!

Great job guys and gals. We were all watching and holding our collective breath. Hopefully you’ve set the bar high for all of us at other Canadian carriers. Congrats.

Re: Agreement in Principle reached
Good job WJ MEC! Let’s see what the deal is-I’m very curious to know what they came up with!
Re: Agreement in Principle reached
Congrats to most united pilot group in Canada. What a road it has been for you all. I hope this deal shows what unity can truly bring.
If it is the new industry standard. I'll be buying coffeees/drinks to all WJ pilots when I see them around the terminals.

Just Listened to the latest PiREP Podcast… Never in a million years did I think I’d see a WestJet pilot wearing a uniform hat…. I’ll start taking wagers now, What are the odds it’s a cowboy hat?
Proud of the WJA Pilot group!

Let's not start celebrating until we know what the numbers are...
Re: Agreement in Principle reached
That is a lot of information to share.
Good for you. Most Pilot leadership would have shared few details other than ‘gains were made’.
Good luck in the roadshow. Good luck in the member ratification vote.
Hopefully it will achieve the stated union goal of making WJ a career destination once again.

Re: Agreement in Principle reached
They basically said that the reason why they voted in favour of this AIP is because the majority of them felt that this was a contract that would easily pass if sent to a vote.rudder wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 5:13 am That is a lot of information to share.

Agreed...
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

If the members were to reject this, can they strike again in 72 hours if necessary?

Re: Agreement in Principle reached
I believe so.
There will likely be a few days before actual details come out, followed by a couple of weeks of road-showing. This will allow pilots to become acquainted with the tentative agreement and cool off from the rhetoric of the past nine months.
Re: Agreement in Principle reached
Technically, on 72 hours notice yes.
But make no mistake, the Feds had their hands all over this. They were on site. I am certain that they were suggesting to both sides what the alternative to an agreement might look like.
My guess is the Feds would just take the AIP and package it with legislation.

What was the pilot group expecting or least hoping to get? I'm curious before they release the real numbers
