Who's applying to WestJet?
With so much more being offered now. Will we see Flair pilots racing to WJ?
Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
I haven't seen any details of the agreement, do you have details?

Don't listen to capt_z, he/she has been trolling every airline sub forum for a while now

Interested in where you got that from as pay scales are yet to be shown. I hope you’re right though! That would be a good start.

Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
Are you sure?
If this is even remotely true, why is the top narrowbody Skipper wage less than TransAt?
This WJ MEC Bernie guy kept stating that they would accept nothing less than "...a North American standard contract." Where do you think Westjet is on that scale now? Wait and see.
If you think new WJ AIP wage scale is above "dead last" in all the newly negotiated North American contracts, I have a bridge for sale.

Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
Why would you race to WJ??
Give me a good reason ...other than the hourly pay rate.
There is nothing fancy in their CBA.
I'm with SWG and I'm telling you...no one is exciting here about theSWG - WJmerge....

Don't think the grass is greener elsewhere
Just my 2 cents thought

Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
What’s in the Sunwing CBA that you feel is superior to WJ?
Eg, do you get YOS when you go from right to left? Socialized bidding?
I don’t work for WJ but I’ve never heard any pilot say their goal is Sunwing, heck we have a Jazz pilot who took a LOA to go there and could have stayed but chose to come back to Jazz when the leave was up.
Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
Word from union..and I do believe it...our contract in SWG is not bad...and way better than WJ. Lifestyle wise ..life is not just about hourly pay rate...
Vacation....do you want to be on rsve for..18h...no food....
And so and so...not even talking about schedule...
And if your objective is to become a captain, I hope you are patient.
Most of swoop cpts apparently have been demoted after the merge..and left.
If I can't keep my left hand seat after the merge, I don't see any single reason to stay with WJ
But eh...everyone has different priorities in life and comes from a different position.

Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
DOn't bother go to WS, go to AC as you'll see a boost.
There is no North American Standard Contract
There is a Canadian standard and the US Standard. Unless you have freedom of mobility you're comparing apples to oranges. Like Heat Pumps to Natural Gas,
95% of Canadian pilots couldn't be hired in the US easily. If they could be, they would have crossed the border already.
Carry on. Queue the haters saying I'm here to antagonize. I'm pointing out reality.
Apply to AC or Porter. For the next 6 months those are your options for "Gains" above the current standard.

Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
A word about lifestyle at swg:
Even being at the list third of your base seniority list.
You work up to 10 days a month. So you have 10 GDOs and 10 Grey days.
If you work those (entirely up to you) you make extra money, time 2 for GDO, time 1,5 on grey from 82 to 100 hours more it's time 2.
It's easy to add 20 to 30 % in overtime per year only adding 2 to 3 days of work to your schedule per month.
So maybe the hour rate is better at WJ, but I like my lifestyle and I certainly like my seat.

Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
Almost zero overtime available at WS now with the new contract. And even then only 1.5X pay.nohojob wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 6:28 am A word about lifestyle at swg:

Other than increased take home pay our CA2 is very underwhelming. Swoop was a dead duck anyway so it’s a shame we gave up so much for so little.
As for keeping your seat, most junior captain here has 10 years seniority. That’s to go bottom of the reserve list.
Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
I concur Nohojob..
People just tend to focus on hourly pay rate...
Wrong perspective sometime..imho

Re: Who's applying to WestJet?
Going to the mainline you gonna have to go through all this until you build up on seniority I guess. Flair is not bad option but WJ is better in some sense I guess.
