If garbage company can pay truck driver $70
Airline can pay at $100 or more

Alaska airlines, same aircraft, airspace & airports & similar size company
Alaska airlines can pay canada $136/hour for new hire, $202/hour year 2
Small no union company King Air captains over $100,000, some $200,000 Switch to WestJet?

Explain

What's the difference between the pilots flying a passenger on WestJet connecting to Delta? Its the same.

The ticket sold by WestJet, with the passenger initially with WestJet pilots prior to flying with Delta pilots.

WestJet and US airlines share same airspace & destinations & same geography east to west.

With codeshare a passenger can be on a WestJet flight then transition to Skywest and Delta in the same day.

Airspace, geography, destinations, aircraft type & passenger citizenship isn't reasons to pay WestJet pilots less.

The government offloaded airports. Used to be an expense now they charge insane lease rates to the not for profit airports. Now cash cow. No one cares.

150 seats x $2 = $300 hr. Average WJ flight is prob 3 hours. That’s $6 a ticket to give a proper raise.

There are several ways to raise pay, even a small fare increase works:

A 737/319 with passengers in only 100 seats. Charge an extra $5 a ticket. That’s $500 or $250 for each pilot for the flight.

A Dash8 or ATR with passengers in only 20 seats. Charge an extra $10 a ticket. That’s $200 or $100 for each pilot for the flight.

A small increase in fares covers huge increases in pilot salaries, there isn’t even a requirement to take from existing revenues.

The new WJ pilot contract close to $1 fare increase.

Can WJ MEC ask company to additional fare increase $1, all WJ FO would be over $100,000 & captains would see another gain

Canadian Air Transport Security Authority 1 year inflation increase over $2 for each ticket or 33%

Government increase of 33% inflation on the ticket

For pilots 3% & 2.5% inflation on wages

You can vote here if you think inflation to go back to 2%

Posting just so CanadaAir is not having a conversation with himself, not that it justifies but the Garbage truck driver will never make senior pilot wages. They may start at 70,000 but will top out under 100k, might do this as a retirement gig, part time of course.

WestJet pilots get a lower raise than Canadian Air Transport Security Authority
CATSA will get double the recent increases in the pilot contract, a 33% domestic increase to CATSA while pilots get 16%

Requesting the MEC to go back, the MEC chair doesn't need to step down.
They shouldn't interpret it as a loss of support.
The MEC has support & appreciation.

The company should be open to a few more amendments from the rushed deal.
A small $1 fare increase on each ticket to wages. Or a half dollar increase on tickets, a half dollar increase on bags.
No need to threaten lockout or strike.

Soon as I read the second post and saw it was the same poster, I scrolled to see the next actual poster and read that.
