Transport Canada is in the midst of undergoing program modernization, including the medical certification process. One area TC is looking into is to improve the service delivery and minimize the duration of medically necessary suspensions. TC is therefore seeking ideas and comments as to how the aviation medical evaluation processes can better accommodate individuals with health conditions to try and avoid situations where their medical certificates are suspended under the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
So I spent a while looking for the proposals on which to comment, before I realized: there aren't any.
I'm pretty sure that in the past, TC would come up with proposals for new regulations, CARAC would circulate them, and we would get to comment. Then it progressed to TC circulating their ideas, for us to comment on. Now it looks like they're asking us how to do their jobs.
I'm tempted to email: here's an idea to avoid situations where medicals are suspended under the CARs: stop suspending medicals. That should do the trick.
Who's with me?

DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
The problem as I see it , in the Prairie Region anyways, lies directly with the latest RAMO…..DR Natalie Sleno.
I hear and see nothing but complaints regarding delayed and suspended medical certificates. From my experience and that of others the CAME forwards an aviation report to the office of the RAME for processing. It sits in that office for what can be months before being forwarded further to the Canadian Aviation Medical Review Board. They only meet periodically….and when …..no one knows because they don’t respond to emails or any other form of communication! They make their ruling….send it back to the RAMO ….WHO SITS ON IT AGAIN FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG….then it’s sent to TC in YWG for who knows how long….for the issuance of a sicker/booklet. Then Canada Post gets it and forwards it via registered mail!
Quite a process ……bureaucracy working at its finest!
My own personal experience has gone on for exactly a year now……I have had every cardiological opthamoligical and neurological test known to modern man at a huge cost to you the tax payer! All results and recommendations from these specialists or experts recommend full reinstatement of all pilot privileges. NOT VERY LIKELY…..THE RAMO HAS SENT IT THE THE BOARD FOR THEIR DECISION…..
WHATS THE POINT OF HAVING A RAMO ………SHE CANT/WON’T MAKE A DECISION ON HER OWN. PATHETIC AT BEST.
PEOPLE IN THESE POSITIONS NEED TO MAKE DECISIONS NOY PASS THE BUCK!
I also have to mention that the guidelines used for determining medical fitness above were put together in 1993…….30 YEARS AGO…..it’s all on the TC web site …..come on TC things have changed let’s get out of the dark ages and modernize…….

Wasn't Dr Fogel responsible for the Prairie Region? Did he quit?

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship
