Grooming
Are there any talks of grooming being removed from crew duties? Porter is tempting as a career destination but I didn’t become an airline pilot to clean garbage. Thoughts?
Re: Grooming
I didn’t realize Porter did this, absolutely should be rid of this, it’s disgusting and should not be part of a professional pilots duties!pitottubey wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 3:33 pm Are there any talks of grooming being removed from crew duties? Re: Grooming
Most spots have grooming, cabin crew do most of the heavy lifting but occasionally pilots are tasked to help out.
I would imagine this will be turfed soon because there is a ton of resistance from the pilots, cabin crew hate it and its a health hazard.

Re: Grooming
Most places the jet goes has grooming services. Where we don’t, we make sure to have all pre-flight duties completed prior to this.

Re: Grooming
Right now the FAs are grooming the plane at stops where we don't have groomers. It sucks. But that's the way it is right now. If I'm finished my post-flight duties and ready to leave I have no problem helping out. It takes two minutes of my time and in the end gets us off the plane quicker.
I hope it changes. But until then I'll keep helping out whenever I can.

Unfortunately it is this exact attitude of complacency and apathetic view towards matters that allows companies to get away with everything we complain about.

Yeah I suppose that's one way of looking at it. But when my FAs are in the back sweating like crazy I'm not going to stand around and twiddle my thumbs.
Sorry.

Also, WJ pilots groomed for years. We already have grooming at most outstations. Yes we may have to “help” at a couple locations. Who cares dude. By the time I’m done setting up the plane for the turn and go and help, the most I do is cross 2 rows of seatbelts.
This is residual from the dash operation. Things are changing for the better. Get off your high horse.

Bullsh**t we clean the whole plane. This attitude is why we have the worst working conditions in the industry.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 5:06 amMy username choice is none of your business. It’s an anonymous forum. Maybe I admire the guy.

Re: Grooming
I also call bullshit, we don't just "cross 2 rows of seatbelts". Passengers are gone? Get on those plastic gloves and start getting those napkins, empty wrappers and beer cans from seat pockets, cross those seatbelts and with 4 crew on board that's probably 5 rows each. Embarrassing you defend this shit, pilots need to grow some balls and dignity in this country. Edit: Also we don't have grooming at most outstations, I don't know where you're getting this from really. The large majority of destinations we groom.REFPLUS10 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 5:55 pmBullsh**t we clean the whole plane. I had an engineer size a beam the other day, because he went to school, got licensed, and it needed a stamp. After the guys installed it he came by and cleaned up after the crew.
Oh wait, yeah that didn't happen.

The point isn’t getting across. Fine, you’re right, I may have been loosely worded where we have to groom and how many rows we do. In my experience, the FAs have it mostly done by the time I’m even able to walk to the back. My previous post was referring to how WJ pilots went through the same situation. Does it need to change? Yes.pitottubey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 9:19 pmI also call bullshit, we don't just "cross 2 rows of seatbelts". Passengers are gone? Re: Grooming
Maybe…. Time will tell. But people bashing a new player in the game because the pilots helped groom in the early days is ridiculous. Things take time, we’re 6 months in a new operation. It Took WJ years to iron that out.goleafsgo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 4:40 amAnd that changed for WJ when ALPA came…maybe it’s time for porter tooCaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 3:37 amThe point isn’t getting across. Re: Grooming
Porter has been flying for how long? 17 years? Not exactly "the early days". I'm sure there will always be a great reason (excuse) for the airline cutting costs by having pilots be part time cleaning ladies. Please everyone stop justifying how pilots are treated in Canada, no wonder were some of the worst treated/paid pilots in the developed world.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:13 amMaybe…. Re: Grooming
Shocked to discover pilots at Porter are grooming. Truly embarassing to the industry. Why have they still not unionized?!
