Logging Night XC for ATPL

Post by tanxiaoneng »

Hi folks,

I've been thinking about how to properly log night PIC and night XC.

I'm still training and I was looking at my Foreflight logbook, and it's showing a total of (something like) 58.0 PIC, 8.3 night, and 44.4 XC. Just from these numbers, how can you tell how many hours I have for night PIC, night XC, or PIC XC? I mean the logbook only tells you the grand total and it doesn't help at all when you need to log hours that meet multiple criteria.

So it's my understanding that online logbooks like foreflight and logten don't really do a good job helping you keep a detailed record. It would be better to use an excel spreadsheet. Am I missing something here? And will employers accept printed excel spreadsheets as logbook?

Cheers,

Those logbooks are generally American style which does not break things down as good with XC etc.
Myflightbook is good, excel is good too. They should accept it, no different than hand written or a special program.

Yes looks like it. I just searched for US ATPL requirement and didn't see those night XC PIC requirement etc. as least just by first glance. When I was a PPL in the US though, I do think we needed a detailed hour breakdown.

I'm planning to use Excel pilot logbook as that seems convenient and doesn't require a subscription. You know when you just google "best pilot logbook", you're bound to get a bunch of answers from the perspective of American pilots, and Foreflight logbook is indeed heavily advertised there...
