GLA-YYZ

Post by The Raven »

I’ve been retired a number of years so am not up to speed on the current duty regs. Today’s GLA-YYZ Air Transat flight had to stop in YUL for fuel. The pilots told the passengers that they couldn’t continue to YYZ without exceeding their duty day so another crew had to be brought in to operate the YUL-YYZ leg. Is this true? After operating GLA-YUL you’re finished?

Yes, the new duty regs are much more restrictive than the old ones. One would have to check the departure time out of GLA to see how much time they had to start with and if there were any delays departing. Stronger than expected winds/weather deviations could have caused them to dip into their fuel enough that they had to divert to YUL and that point they'd definitely be out of time. They may have also been doing a re-clear that didn't work out and led to timing out in YUL.

The GLA-YYZ is basically a night flight so very restrictive on duty. 9 hours of duty is probably what they were limited to.
