Honestly, I'm surprised he lasted this long. At least it's a change of pace from the usual "fell off the balcony with two shots to the back of the head" suicide claim.

Me too, but this was done to "make a statement", a "very public statement".

I'm surprised Russia wanted to waste a business jet on him. I'm sure they could use the spare parts with all the ongoing embargos!

I hear there were two 600s in the air around the same time, both purportedly registered to Prigozhin or some company known to be associated to him. So the question is, was he actually on the one that was shot down or is this going to be a very interesting story in a few days when he pops up again in Rostov-on-Don?

Major news networks, like BBC, CNN, FOX, CBC and of course Russian RT say he was onboard. They even released the list of those killed:

Passengers:
Prigozhin Evgeniy
Utkin Dmitriy
Propustin Sergey
Makaryan Evgeniy
Totmin Aleksandr
Chekalov Valeriy
Matuseev Nikolay

Crew members:

Levshin Aleksei, pilot
Karimov Rustam, co-pilot
Raspopova Kristina, flight attendant.

I'm aware of the reporting, I saw it pop up on my phone shortly after it happened. From a BBC article, they are saying it's unusual for Rosaviatsiya to release any information about a crash so quickly, like publishing a manifest. It's also interesting that Yevgeny would be naive enough to load that many of the top Wagner personnel into a single aircraft...

I hear most of the Russian networks and papers are barely covering the story at all, passing coverage at best. Not surprising, they're all waiting to hear what the official line is. Two months to the day since the "mutiny". As the old saying goes, if you're going to take a shot at the King, make sure you don't miss.

So much copium and hopium on social media. People are viscerally invested in ANYTHING that makes Russia look bad - even more so than during the cold war. Look at the reaction to the "coup that wasn't", both before it was shown that it was a fake, and after.

The next few days will show whether this was a fake or not, again. There is, however, a large chance Prigozhin's plane was shot down by Moscow air defense installations. He was a rival to Putin's political career as a very popular figure, now this is an out for both Putin and Prigozhin. His (Yevgeny's) cellphone was found in the wreckage, apparently, but we all know that billionaires have a way to "make things look a certain way".

Btw, digits_, Russia has a flourishing aviation sector because they buy their airplane parts through Turkey, UAE, China, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan. They still have a 4x weekly flight from UUDD to Varadero on a 777-300ER. The only things that the sanctions have managed to accomplish are:

1. Acceleration of the de-dollarization of the world
2. Revival of the Russian manufacturing sector
3. Large fortunes being made by Indian and Brazilian companies buying discounted Russian oil, and then reselling it to Europe at full price, and
4. Starving and sick Cubans because the large amount of foreign aid they received from Russia, now replaced by 10 tons per flight of extra fuel carried by Nordwind's 777s as they rout their flights over Turkey and North Africa.

#winning.
