Switching Frequencies on Class E

So I know you're supposed to stay on an MF frequency until you leave the zone, which is usually 5 NM up to a certain height. But what happens when I'm in a class E control zone, then after 5 NM I'm in a class E control area? Do I still keep using the MF at that point until I'm clear of the control area as well, or can I swap to enroute at that point?
(First time flying in non class G airspace so I wanted to be sure.)

IFR or VFR?
If you are VFR once you leave the MF you are free to switch.
While E is “controlled airspace” it’s also not.

Not a bad idea to advise the MF you are switching to 126.70.
Another good habit is use your second com to monitor— monitor 126.70 while still on the MF to aid situational awareness, switch active to 126.70, then use second com to monitor unicom at your destination airport (if uncontrolled), then again switch over.
