TC to FAA Conversion

Post by BIGPAPI »

What are the steps to be taken to convert your TC CPL/ATPL to FAA. Can I just study for a week and jump across the border and write some exams? Are any Canadians applying and getting hired at US carriers?

You gotta do the CTP/ATP course now. Costs about 4500 USD.. Did mine a year ago. If you aren't a US citizen you have to use a law firm to obtain a EB-2.. costs 15-20K.. and not 100% guaranteed you'll be successful in the application process. Good luck.

Commercial to commercial, and IFR to IFR is a breeze, really: Apply for a licence validation letter through IACRA, sign up for a differences cram course ( I used Gleim) go down to an exam provider and write the exams. Visit Doc and get 2nd class medical. Take exam results, medical and letter to an FAA designate, and apply. Should get your commercial in the mail a few weeks later. ATPL, as mentioned, you have to do the CTP course, and do a ride.
As always, the difficult part is getting the right to work down there..

What do you mean by "Do a ride" for ATP? AC61-135 says that no skill test is required for ATP.

There is no ride if youre converting a TC ATPL to an FAA ATP. However, even if you hold an TC ATPL, you still have to complete the ATP/CTP course and ATP conversion written exam or the ATM exam.

You will have to take a checkride if you only hold a TC CPL converting to FAA CPL. and no, you can not go from TC CPL, to FAA ATP even if you have all the times and requirements.
