Reminds me of flight training. Used to take students out when strong upper winds were present and would do slow flight and see how slowly we could progress with reference to the ground. Most of the time we'd get down to just really slow or no forward progress but on a few occasions actually wound up flying backwards with reference to the ground.

I've always been disappointed the GPS never showed a negative value
