Gander International Airport in dire Straights

Post by wooden spoon »

Gander international airport has approached the federal government and advided they are loosing money and if the federal government doesnt step in they may be forced to close, possibly this fall.much of this loss could be attributed to the fact that Canada has an internationl agreement to land military aircraft at Canadian airports for free. The revenue loss at Gander is huge in this respect. That with the loss of much of the domestic traffic and a drop in international landings have caused a deficit for the airport.Gander is used by many international airlines as an enroute alternate. As well the closest alternate for Torbay(yyt). :(

It's too bad if it closes. Nice airport. Isn't there a fairly large flight school out there?
